Location was great. Right in the heart of old Quebec. The room was very clean. Check in and out was very easy. We had a standard room and it was very small and tight but it did the job as we were put from morning to night.

Horrible

We stayed at Louisbourg relying on an excellent memory from about ten years ago. What a disappointment. The hotel seems to be managed completely differently today and, unfortunately, the quality is no longer there at all.
From the moment we arrived, the tone was set. The reception is located in a different building than the rooms, which is not particularly convenient since you have to go outside with your luggage. The reception area is tiny, dark, and unwelcoming. The handling lacks organization and does not give a reassuring first impression at all. In the entrance, a damaged wall unit revealed wires. Without being able to assess the compliance of this installation, its condition did not inspire confidence and immediately reinforced our impression of an inadequately maintained establishment.
Access to the rooms is problematic. One must pass through several doors before taking a very narrow and steep staircase, which is completely inaccessible to individuals with reduced mobility, without this significant constraint being clearly highlighted. The common areas are worn, the carpet is dirty, the furniture seems to have been collected over the years, and the lighting is insufficient, which further accentuates the impression of neglect.
The room is extremely small and does not meet the expectations one might have of a hotel. The walls are damaged, the curtains are wrinkled, the electrical baseboards and light fixtures are dusty, and the furniture is worn and poorly arranged. The closet emitted a very strong smell of cat urine, which discouraged us from storing our clothes there.
The bathroom is equally disappointing: poorly fixed plumbing, slow drainage, exposed pipes, and approximate maintenance. The toilets were not clean upon our arrival, and hair was still present on the floor. The toiletries provided are so small that they resemble samples more than actual welcome products.
The most concerning aspect was undoubtedly the state of the bedding. The sheets and towels emit a very strong smell of laundry detergent, to the point of being uncomfortable. At the moment of leaving the room, while removing the sheets, we discovered large stains on the mattress protector. A particularly unpleasant discovery that left us with a deep sense of discomfort.
The soundproofing is virtually non-existent. From the bed, we felt the vibrations of people moving in the hallway and heard their conversations as if they were taking place in the room. Moreover, the air conditioning was not functioning properly, and it was impossible to adjust the temperature. We spent the night in a room that was far too cold.
Throughout our stay, the room was never maintained. No system allowed us to request housekeeping, and we did not encounter any staff in our building.
The breakfast, although included, was a huge disappointment. We must once again change buildings by going outside. The room is pleasant, but that is where it ends. The service is cold and rather impolite. As soon as we settled in, we were informed that an additional charge of $10 would be applied if we wanted more than the standard package. The coffee is humorously presented as "sock juice," but it is indeed very bad. The pancakes are thick, dry, and taste undercooked. The fruits did not seem fresh, the potatoes were bland, and the entire meal was very disappointing. The atmosphere was heavy and not welcoming. The next day, we preferred to have lunch elsewhere.
Finally, at the time of departure, there was another unpleasant surprise: the reception was closed even though we were within the opening hours. No box allowed us to return the key. After several unanswered rings, we had to call for someone to finally come and open the door for us.
We are used to traveling, and we know that an older establishment can have charm despite some flaws. Here, the problem is not the age of the building, but a clear lack of maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and, in several places, facilities whose condition did not inspire confidence. The overall impression is that the establishment is left to itself, to the detriment of comfort and the customer experience.
The only real strong point of this establishment remains its exceptional location, right in the heart of Old Quebec. Unfortunately, this is absolutely not enough to compensate for the general state of the premises.
We left with the feeling that we had paid the price of a hotel while the service offered resembled more of a poorly maintained budget accommodation. For a city as touristy as Quebec, this experience is very disappointing and does not reflect the level of quality that visitors are entitled to expect.
We will not return and we cannot recommend this establishment.

Don’t bother good location but it’s a dump

I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and unfortunately this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.
From the moment we arrived, the check-in process was frustrating and the condition of the hotel was extremely disappointing. The hallways had an overpowering smell of laundry detergent and fabric softener, to the point that it was uncomfortable. The carpets throughout the hotel appeared extremely dirty and worn, and the flooring was uneven in several areas.
There is no elevator, which is important for guests to know considering the hotel has four floors. Carrying luggage up multiple flights of stairs is certainly not ideal, especially for families, older guests, or anyone with mobility concerns.
The room itself was extremely small and had no air conditioning. The bathroom was even more disappointing. The shower was a very small stand-up shower, approximately 32 inches wide, the shower curtain had visible mould on it, and there were holes and damage in the walls. The bathroom also had a very strong urine-like odour that made the space feel unclean.
Overall, the hotel felt very outdated, poorly maintained, and in need of a serious deep cleaning and renovation. When you are paying for accommodations, you expect at the very least a clean, comfortable and properly maintained room. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.
I rarely leave reviews this negative, but I feel other travellers should know what to expect before booking. I would not stay here again based on our experience

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I have never seen a welcome like this, because you have to follow a series of random instructions to find the reception and then follow a maze of steep and dangerous stairs to finally arrive at our room.
And what a surprise when we open the door to a small room from which an odor of food and poorly maintained air conditioning emanates.
Next, the cleanliness is hit-or-miss; we discovered used cotton swabs between the floorboards.
The bathroom, or rather the shower-toilet, is tiny with a curtain that is ageless and smells bad.
Furthermore, the back door opens onto trash dumpsters from which a pestilential odor emanates.
In summary, run away.
If I could give zero stars or negative stars, I would have.
To summarize, the only positive point is the location.
