Fun in the sun and smoke

This was another wonderful family vacation (our fourth year in a row) despite some smoke from the wildland fires. The Richter Pass Beach Resort is an older facility but the location is fabulous.
Stacey the manager and her husband Huey (the maintenance manager) do everything possible to ensure that their guests have a nice vacation at their resort.
We found two excellent restaurants that were tried for the first during this trip but we will revisit them for dinner again next year.
Campo is a great Italian restaurant worth walking distance off the Resort. The other really good restaurant was the Diamond Steak and Greek Restaurant.
We are looking forward to next year’s holiday there as our trips to Osoyoos have become a family tradition.

We were only there for one night as we were on a road trip. We never did see any staff as the office was almost always closed but they did have our check-in ready for us and we were able to text when we left. The best thing about Richter Pass is the location! We loved having the private beach access which we enjoyed and we were able to walk to a restaurant in the evening about a kilometer away for dinner. It was nice to take a break from driving. The room was very clean and roomy. The only room complaint is that exterior lights are left on all night and the room does not have room darkening curtains or blinds. We also couldn't find any access to ice. It might have been somewhere but since we didn't actually see any staff we couldn't ask. We would stay again if room darkening curtains were installed or the lights were turned off by 11 pm.

This is the worst place we have ever stayed in the past 40 years. We have been travelling by road around BC, Yukon and NWT to the Arctic Ocean this past month and all the other accommodation was much superior.
The grout in the tiles around the bathtub was mildewed. The bathroom light did not work. The window was filthy.
The coffee pot was broken. The bedspread had grease stains. The small bed mattress was worn out and broken down on the side. Linens were OK but not crisp
The air conditioner was super loud and we could not sleep with it on. The exterior outside lights were far too bright and the curtains too thin. As such, the room was extremely bright all night making it difficult to sleep. The back window in the bedroom was full of spider webs and dirt. The place needs a good cleaning and black out curtains installed.
The outside area was generally run down and dirty. The stairs up to the second floor were dirty with spider webs and bird droppings. The signage is very old and decrepit. The photos on hotels.com must be old photos.
The room was partially renovated with new walls and vinyl flooring which was nice.
However, we were still very disappointed with the room.

We turned into the first entrance to the Richter Pass resort heading east from Osoyoos and wondered if we'd made a terrible mistake. The dumpsters and junk gave a poor first impression. But once we settled in we quickly came to appreciate the place. The accommodations are basic but for the price, but the beach is great and, especially when compared to neighbouring properties, it is excellent value. One of the best things about our stay here is how friendly all the other guests were, especially around the shared barbecues and outside tables by the lake. There were folks here who clearly have been visiting regularly for many years (I heard one lady say almost 50 years) and I can see why. It's down-to-earth, old-school and unpretentious in the best possible way.
I just wish they could dim the lights on the balconies overnight!

Affordable and nice place to stay when in Osoyoos. Right on the water, with its own private section of the beach. Bedroom, kitchen and bathroom were decent, if just a bit long utilized. Everything was well used, but it all worked and the air cond worked its best to keep us cool. Good value for money, for Summer in Osoyoos.
