The gentleman who answered the phone explained that the reservation was non-refundable, which I completely understood. However, the way the situation was handled was disappointing. During the entire conversation, I never asked for a refund or requested an exception. Instead, I was told that it was "not their problem," and he questioned whether my reason for cancelling was truthful. He also suggested that I should have thought about this before making the reservation.
Unfortunately, my family member only became sick that morning, experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. This was something I could not have predicted when I made the reservation the day before.
I completely understood that the reservation was non-refundable. I was simply calling to inform the motel that we would not be checking in.
My disappointment was not about the cancellation policy, but about the lack of empathy and professionalism during the phone call. I hope situations like this can be handled with more understanding and compassion in the future.

The check-in was super friendly. The guy did mention when asked, everyone asks about AC. Why?
I was given parking directions and led to the door.
This room was clean, updated, large, bright, with a fully equipped kitchen!
It had a large full sized brand name AC unit. (The same or better as I expect to find at a high end hotel.
The bathroom,kitchen and bed areas were ALL modern and updated. Hot water was never an issue. Toiletries provided in sterile and safe packaging.
I would completely skip this spot on the map if this wasn't the lone wonderful experience!
