Excellent!

Reading all the reviews, I wasn’t sure about this hotel but I was very pleasantly surprised. We had a room in one of the back buildings. It was a
large, recently renovated room. The shower and bathroom were modern with huge, plush towels and nice shower gel etc. The bed was very comfortable. There was a coffee maker and a small kitchenette with a big fridge and everything you need to cook a simple meal. Although the hotel seemed very full during our stay, we couldn’t hear any noise coming from the adjacent rooms and they definitely had people in them. The room exceeded all our expectations. We loved the dock with the Adirondack chairs. There are several barbecues and picnic tables guests can use. The bar was recently renovated and has huge windows overlooking the water, comfy chairs, and an inviting fireplace. The cocktails were excellent. The let-down was perhaps the restaurant, we ate there once, but it was average and with very little choice for vegetarians. Had there been more food options for vegetarians we would have probably eaten there every night as driving into town for dinner was a bit of a hassle. Yes, the decks are still awaiting new furniture and a lick of paint, the gym could also use a little upgrade, but that didn’t bother us as the room and location were fantastic! Excellent price quality! We would absolutely go back!

Great location, nothing more

Great location, nothing more . The hotel is very worn out and run-down. At check-in we had to change rooms because it was just too dirty and musty. This went without any problems at the reception.
There is trash everywhere around the property. It's a shame, you could make more of it.

Two night stay

Visited Painters lodge for two nights. When I lived in Campbell River this was the place to go. Not so much anymore, the place is very run down, the rooms had a renovation but basically an Amazon Reno. None of the lodge charm exists anymore. The room smelled like dog and the bathroom smelled and was dirty. We were given a can of febreze for the odour. The pub carpet was filthy dirty. The windows weren’t clean, housekeeping showed up at 430pm to clean the room and there is no phone to call the desk. No control of outside light and beds uncomfortable, not enough towels in room and at pool so many trips to front desk. This is a solid 3 star at best. The view is spectacular though. Will not return especially at the price point.

Beautiful landscaping however…..

Pro’s and Con’s:
Pro: great location and beautiful grounds. Nice staff
Con: the carpet in the restaurant was so dirty that I physically had to move my chair so that it wouldn’t ruin my meal- filthy!!!!

We love Painters Lodge and have been staying there for 42 years as we were married there in 1984.
I Am happy to say that the new owners are making a concerted effort to improve what was a very run down property. Over the past year the rooms have been renovated. And many things have been upgraded and improved. The pool is reopened with new decks and a glass enclosure. The hot tubs were not functioning but I’ve been told that they will be up and running soon.
The gardens, grounds are improving.
The dining room kitchen is being renovated so the dining room was not open but the pub was open for meals.
The gift shop was about to reopen.
In the rooms there are very efficient new kitchenettes.
I was impressed by the room upgrades.
We will return!
