Nice lodging in Baddeck, especially for a group
The Inverary Resort offers a lot and is within walking distance of Baddeck. There are several options for lodging, they have a welcoming restaurant and bar, and are located right on the water. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The property was clean and the booking process was easy.
The only reason I couldn't rate this place higher was the smell in my room. We stayed here twice, both times I was given a room in The Old Barn. The whole building smells of mildew, but room #12 was awful. It smelled so badly I tried to change rooms.
Overall, we enjoyed the resort, but I'd suggest not staying in The Old Barn.

Overrated expensive old place that needs a serious renovation, it is 2026.
Horrible, outdated rooms, terrible smell and carpet that must be changed.
Bathroom with dirty shower curtain, shower head was quite nasty. Location is great but that's the only positive thing that can be written, Pick a different place if you can. Expensive for what the resort offers and is. In one of the old house where my room was, noise was pretty loud and room door doesn't have a good insulation.

Terrible customer service
Booked a room in the main lodge 10 months in advance. The main lodge is a newer build. And my reservation clearly stated that the room was in the main lodge. Arrived after a long day of driving to be told that our room was in another much older building. The front door was being held open by a trash bag and the walls were scuffed and worm. The room was musty and located above the pool and the stench of chlorine was overwhelming. I immediately went back to the front desk to ask to be put in the main lodge as our reservation clearly stated and was told that they were full and there was nothing they could do. The disheveled man at the front desk kept repeating that it was the same room. Which it clearly was not. Very unprofessional staff. We checked out and went and stayed at a much nicer Airbnb. Avoid this place! Not as advertised! Get an Airbnb!

In a great spot, looking a little dated
We stayed in the Argyle block. We thought it was rather dated, you needed a key to get in the room. It was clean, the bathroom was clean and small, but could do with a tidy up. We, didn’t notice any noise issues. We, had supper and breakfast in the restaurant on site. Which is alongside the lake, there is a small patio outside. We sat out, and enjoyed a drink, we were not bothered by any bugs. The drinks were on the expensive side, but I suppose you are paying for the privilege of being there. A very short walk to the local legion, for cheap drinks and help support them. The legion had the jukebox playing the night we were there. They is a large outdoor patio too, we never used it though. There are other restaurants and bars nearby, within walking distance.

Poor Hospitality, rude staff
Our group of nine booked three rooms at Inverary Resort several months in advance. At the time of booking, we specifically asked whether the resort was pet-friendly, as one family would be travelling with a small dog. We were told that pets were welcome, there would be a $25 cleaning fee, and that we might be assigned to a different building. That seemed perfectly reasonable and is standard practice at many hotels.
When we arrived, we checked in with the front desk without issue. Nothing was mentioned about the dog. About an hour later, however, a staff member came to our room and immediately accused us of trying to sneak the dog onto the property. He insisted the entire resort was not pet-friendly, despite the information on the resort’s website and the assurances we had received when making our reservation months earlier.
Rather than apologizing for what was clearly a communication error on the resort’s part, his approach was confrontational and dismissive. He told us they would “let” us stay and then proceeded to remove all of the blankets from our room. Later that evening, we encountered the same employee driving a golf cart while we were walking our dog. He gave us a hostile look, made a comment to a colleague, and the interaction reinforced how unwelcome we felt.
This was especially disappointing because we had just finished a long day of travel and were looking forward to relaxing. Instead, we spent the evening feeling uncomfortable and as though we had done something wrong, despite following the instructions we had been given.
For context, our dog is a 15-pound, non-shedding Cavapoo. We travel frequently and have stayed at many other accommodations throughout Cape Breton, including Cabot in Inverness the previous year. Those properties welcomed both us and our dog warmly, even providing a dog bed, treats, and a small welcome gift. We certainly weren’t expecting that level of service here, but we did expect to be treated with courtesy and respect.
The other disappointment was breakfast. Given the price, we expected a much higher-quality offering. Instead, it was comparable to the complimentary breakfasts that many hotels provide free of charge, making it poor value for the cost.
The resort itself has a beautiful setting and plenty of potential, but hospitality is about making guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, our experience with the way this situation was handled overshadowed our stay.
