Truly hidden gem

When I asked an airline attendant at the airport where the Capri Hotel was I was met with laughter that I would be going for a stay. So I got a little nervous. But I’m in Rio and that’s a risk in and of itself. So I was happily surprised when I put their judgements aside and took an Uber to the Capri and stayed for a day. Nice room. Slightly old school but no musty smell because the floors are all marble. Bathroom all modern. Bed modern. Refrig in the room. Clean. Hospitable. Easy to access. Safe. Free breakfast. And the manager was absolutely charming friendly and helpful! I saw no difference between this room and one at Linx (also excellent). I will stay here again without reservation although I will make one next trip to Rio!

No, don't do it...

Capri
Please, unless there's a shortage of rooms, in the whole of brazil. Don't stop here. Actually, consider commuting from Chile to avoid this hotel where said shortages occur.
This is the worst kind of hotel, old and borderline seedy, they have clearly got a professional photographer in to photo the rooms to produce a nice brochure... Don't be fooled.
I arrived in the very reasonable and modern reception area, checked in and was given two keys, one for my room and one for the Mini Bar.... In case you don't trust the person you're travelling with I guess. Thankfully I was alone so Mini Bar security was only a minor concern....
(Yes, apparently hotel rooms still have keys)
So, moving on and entering the room. Inside you have a little reception area, bedroom and bathroom combination. The bed is rock hard and having been to China several times I feel qualified to make that comparison, there's also doormats adjacent to the bed, handy...
Just incase it crossed your mind, don't think about sealing the TV. The hotels name is carved into the screen and the remote is screwed to the wall. Damn
Turns out the doormat is for a dripping human when leaving the shower as there's only one towel, why there's two and why they're next to the bed remains a mystery.
Desperate to leave my room, I visited the restaurant where the lady who checked me in was serving. I ordered a beer and waited, then waited. Around 40 minutes later my beer arrived and thinking ahead, ordered another and my food - an hour later my food came. (Yay) Then the power went off, I decided against ordering another beer, hoping to leave the restaurant before having to checkout. (I did consider ordering my breakfast at this point, to cover myself)
You won't find anyone in the hotel who speaks English, not that that's a criticism as I was in Brazil but it does make things easier for the foreigner.
Oh, one thing I forgot... You get to make your own bed. They leave the sheets out for you, brill..!

Not a good airport hotel!

The hotel is located in an ugly industrial zone in front of a busy highway that leads to Río, so all the morning traffic to Río goes through there! The hotel arranged a cab for me (for a fixed price of 50 reales) to the airport. But the cab was 15 minutes late, the morning lady at the reception didn´t seem to care much and there is NO WAY you can go out and catch a cab yourself … you just have to wait. Morning traffic was heavy (6:30am) and it took another 45 minutes to get to the airport!
It is a hotel/motel/”hotel de paso” in one. That didn´t bother me, I knew. Reception area and the restaurant are actually very nice and modern! But once you step out the elevator, everything changes. Dark corridors with low ceilings full of tubes, hanging bulbs instead of lamps. My room 102 smelled heavily after some cheep detergent, tv and light control were mounted into a strange board on the wall (see the pics), bed had cheep sheets which you have to put on yourself! After taking a shower there was a loud noise in the tubes for another hour (no kidding!).
Breakfast was ok, from 6:00am.
It is survivable to stay there one night, but I don´t recommend it anyway since the location is not good.

Otimas estadias

Vale a pena

Somos clientes desde 1995, porém não constante. Sempre que viajamos e está na rota de nosso destino, é lá que nos hospedamos. É confortável, pessoal atencioso, boa comida, segurança e ainda tem a facilidade de sair no viaduto de retorno.
