Established on a highly elevated area about 5,939 feet above mean sea level, this port of entry connects passengers coming from Tehran, the capital of Iran.

Travellers looking for Yasuj Airport on the map will find it between 30.699774 (latitude) and 51.55276 (longitude). When landing here, one will find a relatively spacious runway which measures about 8,522 long. Such size can accommodate a number of medium-sized planes, which transport a considerable number of passengers going to Yasuj and the surrounding area.

What to see & do

When visiting the area of Yasuj, tourists will find a large town surrounded by densely forested mountains. Hiking is the main activity here, while those driving around can take the path between Yasuj and Chelgerd. The long road spanning more than 300 kilometres will let one enjoy the scenery as it winds through villages, gorges, and steep-sided valleys crossed by fast-flowing rivers.

Upon reaching Chelgerd, one will find that skiing is a popular activity here in this part of the Zagros range. Those visiting here in summer, on the other hand, can go on mountain climbing activities here. Some of the surrounding peaks go up less than 4,000 metres. One of the destinations to visit here is also Koohrang Ski Resort, which has a single 800 metre-long T-bar running up a slope near the tunnel. Skiing is widely popular here between late December and February, with weekdays having a thin traffic.

The Zagros Mountains is also an opportunity not to miss with the barren ridges and valleys stretching 1,500 kilometres from the Turkish border in north-western Iran to the Persian Gulf coast. The population is highly varied here during the summer, when the Persian, Lori, Kurdish, and the nomads mingle around here. Although only a few speak English here, a trip here will be an eye-opening experience.

Shahr-e Kord, the sleepy capital of Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiari province, is a place to behold. Located between two mountain ranges, this agricultural town features the Shahr-e Kord Museum. It features a collection of artefacts with a lovely old hammam building. Another village to visit here is Sepidan, an alpine village that serves to be a start-off point for Pooladkaf, a ski slope about 15 kilometres uphill from the village. Sepidan also serves as a centre for outdoor activities. One can go around the area for more skiing during winter or trekking and mountain biking in summer.

From here, tourists can venture to one of the leading destinations in the country. Esfahan, a 30-minute drive from Shahr-e Kord, has a range of pleasing attractions such as the Masjed-e Shah, a beautiful mosque with blue-tiled mosaic designs and well-proportioned Safavid-era architecture. Another place of worship to see is the Masjed-e Jameh, a complex which shows excellent Islamic architecture. One will find here the geometric elegance of the Seljuks to the Mongol period, and then the refined barque Safavid style. Many more sights await here, such as the Zayandeh River Bridges, where one can stroll along the Zayandeh River at sunset or in the early evening before coming for a hot drink at one of the teahouses on the Khaju, Chubi, and Si-o-Seh bridges.
