The Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) welcomes in all flights coming to the pretty city of Toulouse. This isn’t a huge airport, but there are all the major facilities passengers need when arriving in a new place. These include free WiFi, an information desk, ATMs, a couple of foreign exchange counters, public telephones, a decent variety of eateries, and a few duty-free outlets.

Getting to Toulouse from the airport should take you less than half an hour as the airport is situated a mere 8km from the centre of town. You can take the tram, buses, or taxi services, with this last coming to about 25-30EUR ($36-43).

Things to do in Toulouse

Easily the most impressive attraction in Toulouse is its UNESCO listed basilica, Saint Sernin. This church is considered an exemplary example of Romanesque architecture and style. Ever since its construction started in the 11^th century, this church has been part of the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain. Couple this site with the Couvent des Jacobins, a convent, and adjoining chapel that is the home to the final resting place of Thomas Aquinas.

Outside of the ecclesiastical sites, there are a number of excellent museums, such as the Saint Raymond Archaeology Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Fine Arts Museum. Each of these cultural houses have extensive collections, so you must leave yourself enough time to enjoy them properly.

Then head to Place du Capitole, the main square of the city where you will be impressed by the neo-classical architecture. The town hall is situated in this square, and you can visit the remarkable rooms and halls of this building the first Sunday of each month. Then make sure you find your way to the Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in the city, which crosses the Garonne River, and makes for a delightful walk.

Best time to visit Toulouse

·         Aside from the rainy month of May, the time period between April and September are very pleasant. The average across these months is 22°C and the weather is mostly dry. The hottest months are between June and August, and this is the time to enjoy most of the outdoor activities in Toulouse, but these can be enjoyed well into September, and if you’re lucky, October.

·         Winter is chilly, but if you catch the city after a snowfall, can be very atmospheric. If you aren’t used to freeing temperatures, be sure to invest in a warm winter coat.

·         Expect to be subject to at least two stops, in hubs like Bangkok (BKK) and Doha (DOH), and in European bases, like Paris (PARI), and London (LOND).
