What to see & do
Cristo Rei de Dili - Cristo Rei de Dili, or the Statue of Jesus, is a 27-metre tall statue that stands on a globe of earth on a headland east of Dili. It is rumoured that when the statue was built by the Indonesians to present as a gift to the East Timorese, it was designed Jesus would face towards Jakarta. The statue was designed by Mochamad Syailillah and unveiled by Suharto in 1996.
The 500 steps from the beach up to the Statue of Jesus is a popular location for exercising. The area also provides a spectacular view of the bay.
Cape Fatucama - Just outside of Dili, behind the Cristo Rei de Dili, is the beautiful beach Cape Fatucama. It is a picturesque c-shaped coastline with clear waters.
The Archives & Museum of East Timorese Resistance - The Resistance Museum commemorates the 25-year struggle for East Timor's independence from the Indonesians. The museum provides a timeline, photos, and displays weapons and various tools of communications used by the East Timorese in their fight for freedom.
Cemetery of Santa Cruz - The Cemetery of Santa Cruz was the site of the Santa Cruz massacre, wherein at least 250 East Timorese pro-independence demonstrators were shot dead on November 12, 1991.
