Hiring a car from Albury Airport is a great way to get off the beaten track and explore Australia’s sweeping southern regions.

Petrol Stations near Albury Airport

“Full to full” fuel policies are common when it comes to hire cars and these ensure you collect a car with a full tank of fuel which must be refuelled when it comes to dropping off the car.

The closest petrol station to Albury Airport is a Caltex Australia garage less than five minutes’ drive away. It can be found by taking a right onto Drome Street off the main road leading west from the airport.

Driving around Albury Airport

Riverina Highway (or the B58) is the main road leading to and from the airport entrance. Heading west, you’ll come to Albury city centre and also pick up the M31 with routes towards Canberra in one direction and Melbourne in the other. Heading east the B58 crosses Lake Hume and travels in the direction of a number of national parks.

As with the UK, in Australia they drive on the left hand side of the road. It’s easy to forget just how vast Australia is and how huge distances sometimes are between one town and another. Always take food and water with you when setting out on a long journey and, if possible, carry a spare can of petrol in case you find yourself running on empty in the middle of nowhere.

It is important to check the terms of your car hire agreement if you are planning on travelling between territories as some may have restrictions in place.
