Zaranj Airport

Zaranj Airport is a small military airport in the city of Zaranj, Nimruz Province in far south-western Afghanistan. Operated by the Afghan Ministry of Defence and the United States Marine Corps, the airport serves Nimruz Province and is used for civilian and military purposes. Entities that utilise Zaranj Airport include the Afghan Air Force, Afghan National Police, the U.S. military, and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). The airport resides at an elevation of 1,581 feet or 482 metres above mean sea level, and has a runway with a length of 6,562 feet or 2,000 metres. Zaranj, also known as Zarang, is the capital of Nimruz Province in Afghanistan. Aside from getting into the city by air, it is also linked to Lashkar Gah to the east, Farah to the north, and Zabol (Iran) to the west by highways. The Delaram-Zaranj highway, in particular, was constructed by India via Chaknasur to boost the socio-economic development in the region. Zaranj also serves as the border crossing between Afghanistan and Iran, playing an important role to the trade-route between Central Asia and South Asia with the Middle East. The city experiences a hot desert climate with very hot summers and cool winters.

Driving hide 

From Zaranj city centre, head east on Zaranj-Delaram Rd/AH71. After some 800 metres, turn left for about 37 metres then make a slight left to stay on the route. Straight ahead is the airport, which will be on the left. An alternative route would be turning left after some 400 kilometres on Zaranj-Delaram Rd/AH71, then turning right at the 2nd cross street. Turn left again after 450 metres, then straight to the airport.
