Petropavlovsk Airport

The country of Kazakhstan up north features a number of pleasant attractions. Some of them lie in Petropavl (also known as Petropavlovsk, not to be confused with Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Russia), located near the northern stretch of the country's border with Russia. Those going here will also find older and more diverse architecture, allowing for various landmarks to visit. Those interested to check out the place can fly through Petropavl Airport (also known as Petropavlovsk South), which lies 11 kilometres or 6.8 miles south of the city.

Those looking for the airport on the map will find it between 54.7747002 (latitude) and 69.1838989 (longitude), with the coordinates 54°46′28″N 069°11′06″E. Established at an elevation of 456 feet or 139 metres above mean level, the airport handles mid-sized airliners on its runway measuring 8,166 feet or 2,489 metres long, designated 05/23 and paved with asphalt. From here, not much detail can be gleaned about the landmarks in the area due to the remoteness of the region.

The city is situated on the Ishim River, close to the border with Russia, near the Trans-Siberian Railway. Petropavl is the capital of the North Kazakhstan Region, home to different ethnic groups, including Russians, Kazakhs, Ukrainians, Germans, Poles, Tatars, and Belarusians. The Ishim River, which is a tributary of the Irtysh River, flows through here, from Karagandy Region.

Aside from air travel, travellers wishing to get in to or out of Petropavl can do so via the city’s railway station that connects to Moscow, the capital of Russia, as well as to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Little information can be found about the terminals of Petropavl Airport. The airport, however, caters to SCAT and Asia Wings, which transport passengers between Petropavl and Almaty, Astana, and Kokshetau – all within Kazakhstan.
