The Jose Antonio Anzoategui International Airport operates flights in and out of one of Venezuela’s most important cities. Generally offering routes to domestic destinations within Venezuela, BLA Airport is also an international hub, and flies routes to neighbouring countries in Central and South America, as well as ones to Miami in the USA. Situated less than 10km out of the city centre, this is a convenient airport to fly into if you are intending to investigate the charms of one of South America’s oldest cities.

The amenities in the airport will hit all the main markers of a transiting passenger’s needs. On the first floor of the terminal building you will find sit-down restaurants and fast food options if you’re hoping to eat something on the go.

There are also a variety of shops selling local crafts from Barcelona, bookstores, as well as fashionable apparel and accessory boutiques. If you do have a bit of time to kill whilst you are in BLA airport there is an interesting art gallery that passengers can explore at their leisure.

Other facilities include a medical clinic, ATMs, a currency exchange service, travel agencies, a post office, and payphones which will aid you should you need to organise anything last minute pre or post flight.

Driving hide 

The main rental company within the airport is Amigos Car Rental, but there are also Aco, Avis, Budget, Laredo and Unirent, which have counters within the airport. It is worth booking in advance to ensure that you get the vehicle that you want for the duration of your stay.

Driving into town is fairly straightforward; take the Avenida Jose A. Anzoategui to Troncal 9, and then take Avenida Juan de Urpin, which will take you straight into the downtown area.

You can get bus services into the downtown area which pass along the waterfront and to Guaraguao, but you will need to check prices and times once you get into the airport for the latest, most up-to-date information.

Taxi hide 

Taxis are available outside the terminal building, and these are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The journey into Barcelona town shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes, but it is entirely dependent on the traffic.

Despite the short journey though, taxis can be more expensive than you’d think, with an average journey costing around 130-150VEF ($27-32).
