It is located on Missouri's western border, with downtown near the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. Other nicknames given to the city are "KCMO," the "City of Fountains," and the "Heart of America." Kansas City is one of the two county seats of Jackson County, the other being Independence.
Kansas City is home of Kansas City jazz and Kansas City blues, which originated from the 18th and Vine Neighborhood. It is also known for its barbecue (more than 100 barbecue joints across the city) and fountains (there are more than 200).
What to see & do
Experience KC’s best attractions by visiting its well-known spots. Don’t forget to stop over some barbecue joints as well while you’re at it!
Visit National WWI Museum, a spectacular modern museum that houses detailed and fascinating displayed about the war. Not only that, the museum is crowned by the historic Liberty Memorial, and offers great views over the city. More museums await at 18th & Vine, where a museum complex lies smack in a 1920s African-American neighbourhood. Here you’ll find the interactive American Jazz Museum and learn more about the music’s styles, rhythms, instruments, and musicians like Charlie Parker, one of the most influential jazz saxophonist and composer in America. There’s also the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, which covers African-American teams. Sports fans will surely delight in Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, where one can find huge badminton shuttlecocks that surround this encyclopaedic museum. Inside, one can find beautiful European painting, photography and Asian art collections. Some of the best and recommended places to eat here are El Camino Real, Oklahoma Joe's BBQ, and Vietnam Café.
