Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYC)

There are two main airports in Toronto, the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), and the much larger Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Almost all long-haul flights from Australia will be directed to Pearson Airport, and this is a modern and well-equipped facility. Expect to find a pharmacy, foreign exchange counters, concierge services, ATMs, free WiFi, plus a huge list of eateries, from sit down dining, fast food eateries and snack bars. You will also be able to browse duty free shops and high street retail outlets.

At around 30km from the downtown area, the airport is well connected to the city centre.

With buses, trains and shuttles all offering transportation services between the two. Taking a taxi is an efficient way to get into town, but can cost around 50-60CAD ($50-60).

Carriers that frequently fly this route are Air Canada, Delta, American Airlines, China Eastern, Air China, United, Asiana Airlines, Korean Air, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Emirates, and Qatar Airways.

Things to do in Toronto

Start exploring the city by stepping into its excellent museums, such as the Ontario Science Centre, or the Royal Ontario museum. Both places are family friendly, with lots of educational and fun exhibits, which range from science to natural history and art.

In summer, head down to Lake Ontario, and enjoy the beaches that run along the shoreline, or engage in some fun watersports, such as stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, or just relax on a boating cruise around the lake. If you’d rather stay on dry land, then you can explore the Waterfront Artisan Market that runs on weekends in the summertime.

Other highlights include heading up to the top of the CN Tower for the best view of the city, or heading out to the curious Casa Loma, a large castle built by an eccentric millionaire in the early 1900s.

Best time to visit Toronto

· Anytime from March up to October is a good time to visit Toronto. The spring season starts in March, when the weather can still be a little chilly (5-18°C), but overall temperate. Summers are hot and sunny at around 27°C, and autumns are crisp and pleasant (13-20°C).

· From later November through to February, the winter sets in and it gets extremely cold, with lows of around -7°C.

· This route usually flies via Vancouver (YVR), Seoul (ICN), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).
