The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport (KGI) is an important airport for the residents of Kalgoorlie and the neighbouring city of Boulder, and a hub for anyone wanting to explore this fascinating region. There are a limited supply of amenities here, but you can find a bar, a snack kiosk, car hire desks, and free wireless internet.

There are no public transportation options, unless you book an airport transfer online through Skyscanner, or take a cab from outside the terminal building. The journey should take only 10 minutes to traverse the 6km, and come to around $10.

Things to do in Kalgoorlie

Kalgoorlie is known as the largest town in Australia’s Outback, and as such the things you can do here will take you back to a time when pioneering was a way of life. Learn about the Gold Rush and its impact on the people that sought to become rich here at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder WA Museum. Then visit neighbouring Boulder, where you can walk the heritage street, the Golden Mile. Stroll down Burt Street to gain an insight into this part of history, you can even board the old train that once carried miners to their work.

In Kalgoorlie, you can also tour the current open cut mine called the Super Pit, where gold is still mined to this day. If you like you can even learn how to prospect and sift out gold in this town!

Other outdoor activities include golfing on one of the world’s longest golf courses, or strap on some walking shoes and hike to Mount Charlotte where you can watch the sun go down. Then walk down Hannan Street, where you will find almost all of the town’s restaurants, bars, and clubs, where you can throw yourself into the lively nightlife here.
