Ilorin International Airport is the airport serving the city of Ilorin, the capital of the Kwara State in Nigeria, and one of the largest cities in the country. The airport is owned and operated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. It is for public use, and is served by the airlines Arik Air and Overland Airway to offer air passenger service. The airport resides at an elevation of 1,126 feet / 343 metres above mean sea level. It has one runway with an asphalt surface designated with the direction 05/23, and is 10,169 feet / 3,100 metres long.

What to see & do

Esiẹ Museum - The oldest museum in Nigeria can be found in the town of Esiẹ in Kwara State, thus called the Esiẹ Museum. It was founded in 1945 and contains one of the largest collections of soapstone images in the world.

Owu Falls - The falls located in the Owa-Kajola village (also in Kwara State) is best known for being one of the highest (towering at 120 metres above mean sea level) and most impressive natural waterfalls in West Africa. The site is surrounded by mountains that extend to the states Ekiti and Kogi. The falls, as well as the lush vegetation that surrounds the area and the several fauna that live in it, are a popular tourist attractions in West Africa.

Imoleboja Rock Shelter - Found in Odo-Owa, the Imoleboja Rock Shelter is an exceptionally large granite rock formation with a natural architectural design involving inner apartments. The Rock Shelter is capable of accommodating approximately 100 people at a time. The name means 'God has built a house' in local dialect.

Kainji National Park - The park lies on the Niger State and Kwara State, covering an area of some 5,340.82km2 in total. The park comprises three distinct sectors: a part of the reservoir Kainji Lake wherein fishing is restricted, the Borgu Game Reserve on the west, and the Zugurma Game Reserve on the southeast.

Ogunjokoro Iron Mass Park - The mysterious iron mass known as Ogunjokoro or sometimes called Omo Owu has a rounded base and a pointed edge. It is located just outside of the Old Oyo walls. Measuring only 60cm in height and with a base diameter of 30cm, the metallic object is only roughly the size of a cement block, yet it has been estimated to weigh about 50kg. No one knows where it came from and how it changes position within the site, but there are many different stories and theories regarding the mysterious Ogunjokoro.

How to get around within Ilorin

If you can't bring your own vehicle to Nigeria, it would be advisable to simply rent one with a driver who is already familiar with the road system in Nigeria. There are also 'okadas' or motorcycles for short distance journeys, as well as plenty of bus and taxi service. The fares tend to be fixed and no haggling is required.
