Where to hire a car at Alderney Airport

Alderney Airport is very small and has just one terminal. There are no car companies based at the airport. However, there is a free phone in the arrivals hall which can be used to book a rental car. Companies operating in the local area include Automotion and Braye Hire Cars.

Petrol Stations near Alderney Airport

There are just two petrol station located on the island of Alderney. The closest to the airport is three minutes’ drive away. The service station is called Alderney Fuel Services and it can be found on Vert Courtil Road.

Driving around Alderney Airport

Alderney is a small island, just 3 miles long by 1.5 miles wide and there are no major roads across the island. Instead, a network of smaller roads meander their way around Alderney. From the airport, turning right onto Le Grand Val road takes you into the centre of St Anne whilst turning left brings you to Tourgis Hill, a road which travels north to the beach at Crabby and south towards Vallee des Trois Vaux.
All parking across the island is free of charge but there are Disc Parking Zones operating in some areas. Some roads around the island are particularly narrow and winding. Be sure to obey speed limits, some of which are as low as 15 mph.

Getting to your destination

With your own hire car, getting around the island of Alderney is very easy come rain or shine. Here are a few destinations not to be missed:

St Anne

St Anne is the main town on Alderney Island. It’s home to a cathedral-like parish church and old world French-style charm with cobbled streets and quaint architecture. Visitors can head to the town’s museum to learn more about the island’s history or wander down the main thoroughfare of Victoria Street, filled with independent shops, pubs and restaurants.
It takes just five minutes to drive from Alderney Airport to St Anne, taking Le Grand Val road. Free parking is available throughout the town but you’ll have to look out for spaces reserved for disc parking.

Braye

Braye is home to Alderney Island’s famous 19th century breakwater, which shelters the harbour. Around the harbour there are plenty of food and drink options as well as a local sailing club. Visitors will also find a pretty sandy beach a few minutes’ walk from the harbour. This is also sheltered by the breakwater so it’s a great spot for families wanting a paddle.
It takes five minutes to drive from Alderney Airport to Braye, taking Tourgis Hill north and then Route de Picaterre. There are plenty of parking spaces close to the beach and harbour.

Corblets Beach

On the northern coast of Alderney, Corblets Beach offers the best waves for board surfing at high tide the beach is cut off but there are some great options at nearby Arch Bay and Saye. There are some scenic walking and cycling routes around this part of the island and some great fishing spots too at both Corblets Reservoir and at the quarry.
Corblets Beach is a ten minute drive from Alderney. The most direct route takes Le Grand Val towards St Anne and then picks up Longis Road heading northeast. Parking spaces are available at both Corblets Beach and Arch Beach.
