Why visit Nice?

Nestled in the warm embrace of the Mediterranean Sea, and part of the sparkling Cote d’Azur of France, Nice’s reputation precedes it. It has always been known for its glamorous restaurants, trendy bars and designer retailers, however, no matter how many upscale businesses come to town, Nice still manages to be a city for everyone. With gorgeous beaches, warm waters, and plenty of French joie de vivre, Nice is one of France’s most beloved holiday destinations for locals and tourists alike.

Things to do in Nice

Enjoy the older side of Nice; visit its spectacular Matisse Museum, displaying much of the famed painter’s work. See the gorgeous Notre Dame de Cimiez monastery, set in picturesque, flowering gardens, and a window into the way of life of Franciscan monks in the 16th century. And then wander through the colourful, typically French Old Town, called Vielle Ville, where you can really get to grips with the Riviera way of doing things—in the mornings, sip on a cappuccino, and stroll through the marketplaces picking up cheese, charcuterie, or chocolates, and then in the afternoon, enjoy a bold red on a patio.

For sightseers, the Old Town also offers a particular highlight in the way of the Lascaris Palace, a 17th century Baroque residence, built for the aristocratic Vintimille-Lascaris family. Today, it functions as a wonderful music museum, with lots of instruments on display.

Of course, for many, the real attraction of Nice is its beaches. The most famous of which are the Baie des Anges beaches, which feature a long promenade where visitors can enjoy the gardens along the path, and the view out to sea. However, if you’d rather a quieter scene, hopp on a bus to the Beaulieu Sur Mer, where you can find a long public beach set in a protected cove, making it a perfect place for sunbathing and a relaxing swim away from the main crowds of the city.
