I love Cardiff. Family history here helps, sure, but it has a ton of touristic appeal that should lure anyone away from the typical England/Scotland tourist circuit, at least for a few days. There's loads of history, including two castles and a Welsh life museum. There's sport, adventure, family fun, lots of outdoor space, and great nightlife. Even the food scene -- maybe not what the Welsh are typically known for -- has been getting better. Plus it's a great base for exploring South Wales and the Breacon Beacons.
This city was a happy surprise....loved Cardiff. It's walkable with pedestrian shopping streets and a beautiful castle in the middle. Bute Park is an amazing and huge park behind the castle. There are paths that go for miles through trees and along big green open fields. There are good restaurants too.
I love this small city... and it's awesome if you're a WHOVIAN aka Doctor Who fan. If you love Doctor Who... this is your city. Cardiff is right by the sea and is just beautiful. Very quiet and not a party city, but just a laid back city. Everywhere is a filming area for Doctor Who and they still film here. It's also the home of the Doctor Who Experience. And it's wonderful. If you're not a Whovian, it's just a nice place to be to relax. It's a peaceful city and you can walk everywhere.
Nice southern Welsh city. Provincial, but very friendly with beautiful open areas. There is a castle and some battlements and a fair bit to see. Plus the visitor's centre is nice.
