A Perfect Getaway

We booked De Heide's Wellness Suite for a mini-honeymoon and well deserved rest after our wedding.
After extensive searching (where are all the good rental homes in NL?! Recommendations welcome!), we booked this simply because it looked like the best thing we could find...no city noise, no kids running around and an easy journey without a car...man, I'm SO glad we did!
The journey is simple and straight forward and the location is so lovely. Countryside, farms and a few villages and towns within cycling distance. There are bikes and scooters available to rent.
The Suite itself was great. Spacious, clean and stocked with all you need for a self catering holiday. There is a sauna, hot tub on your terrace with robes and crocs to use, outdoor dining table and chairs, a games room with indoor dining facilities, pool table, lounge, open fire. The bedroom was possibly the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in!
You choose your own breakfast and times on arrival and this is delivered to your suite.
We were extremely lucky with the weather while we visited (unfortunate we didn't get much use out of the firewood we bought though!) and this really made for a great, relaxing trip.
I would say a couple of tiny changes to this rental would make it 5* for me: a full length mirror (always needed I think!), upgrade the hair dryer (a very 80's number), a nice coffee machine, and I expected a full bottle of champagne with the champagne breakfast given the price difference (we ordered this for the first morning) ... very small changes but I really can't fault anything else.

Funny pricing issues :)

We arrived on Saturday and to our surprise there was no heating - which is our fault partially as we do not read Dutch. We had groupon deal which seemed ok when comparing with original price - 196 euro with breakfast. We bought wood from the owner and tried to warm up the place which was tricky with temp dropping to 3 degrees outside (inside was not much warmer). No other heating was offered to us. In the morning breakfast that we ordered was brought to our cabin. We were so cold at this point that really looked forward to leaving the place. After arriving home I checked the website again to see whether the price indeed is 196 euro as I WOULD NEVER PAY THAT MUCH FOR WHAT YOU GET! and on the website there was a new category - stay without breakfast for...99 euro per night! So watch out - you might be paying 100 euro for 4 rolls and 4 slices of cheese and some coffee! Disappointing. Also, although the place looks ok when e moved bed towards wooden heater there was so much dirt underneath!

Luxury and comfort... up to a point

The setting of Guesthouse De Heide is stunning. A large property with garden, animals, terraces just outside the small village of Oeffelt. We spent a weekend there with the family. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was nice but not sumptuous. We stayed in one of the safari huts/tents. The decor is very nice but not always practical; my husband had to shave himself in the toilet as there was no mirror over the washbasin. Also, the bath (no shower) is not in a separate compartment.
De Heide advertises with the slogan "luxury and comfort". We were not completely in agreement as our beds were not made and we did not get any fresh towels during our stay.
At the price we paid (200 Euros per night including breakfast) we thought this was pushing it a bit.

Very luxurious stay

Stayed for 2 Nights in the suite of the Guesthouse. The reception was very friendly and everything was neatly explained. The suite itself is very large with a 7p sauna with small plunge pool and rain showers. In addition, a separate billiards room with fireplace and a large bedroom. On the terrace is also a private Jacuzzi. You can also use a kitchen (shared with guests from the penthouse). There is also free WIFI internet available. No TV available, but we did not miss this. Breakfast is brought in the morning. You can indicate what time you want to have this breakfast and wat you want to receive. There is a wide choice in this. The breakfast was very well taken care for.
Only downside is that the general maintenance (mainly cleaning) into the suite is something to be desired. Baked soap residue on the shower floor, and some incipient fungus seen. Also there were many different angles in the cobwebs and there was a large amount of dust on top shelves. A large brushing can not hurt. If this is done, this is a place well worth a visit.

Prachtige locatie voor een familieweekend

In september een familieweekend (17 personen) in Guesthouse De heide gehad. In het huis grote gezellige woonkamer met in totaal 5 slaapkamers en een keuken van alle gemakken voorzien. Ook hadden we de lodges tot onze beschikking, die heel gezellig zijn ingericht. Er is een ruime veranda waar je met een grote groep heerlijk kunt zitten. Verder is er ruimte genoeg om het huis heen. Wij hadden zelf spellen geleend bij een spelotheek die we buiten op het grasveld konden spelen. Voor in huis staat er een kast met spelletjes. De jacuzzi's en snookertafel maakten het helemaal af. Wij hebben hier een topweekend gehad!
