The perfect experience

A must visit. This was one of the most unique travel experiences you could have anywhere in the world let alone Namibia. We recommend going to enjoy the property and home vs trying to make the day trips to dunes (stay closer for one night for that)
Fidel and the team was incredible. Everything was over and above well stocked with endless options. It’s one of a kind - go!

Service very very disappointing!

When you pay such a price for one night you legitimately expect the Service to be at the top – especially when you just stayed in other lodges cheaper and with impeccable Service!
The positives of Desert Whisper are linked to the truly incredible site with breathtaking views , luxurious amenities , drinks and provisions galore!
However, the Service is totally disastrous (and I weigh my words!! )
- when we arrived at the agreed time for the Check in , the lodge was not ready! So we had to wait more than 30 min at the basic campsite.
The lodge concierge (F....) arrived with a dirty t-shirt , full of stains ... great class!
Fake excuses for the delay between “the agency did not give you the right arrival time” and “there were bcp things to clean after the previous guests”: no comment!!
And the icing on the cake: we wanted to barbecue in the evening and ... the gas bottle was empty!!!!! We had to call , wait for someone to come and change it ... in short, it’s not the evening we imagined!
And the food on offer is fine but not particularly refined either...
So there is a huge potential for this place but the whole Service is to be reviewed because as it is, it does not deserve the asking price

Unique and beautiful desert lodging, but food issues were inexcusable

It's difficult to rate such a beautiful and unique lodging experience as a 2, but unfortunately, the value for the steep price (~$1600 USD/night) is not high enough to justify a higher rating.
The good: The views are truly stunning. The desert pod itself is private, spacious, clean, well-equipped, and feels luxurious, with lots of comfortable places to sit inside and out to enjoy the solitude of the desert. The private plunge pool was clean and refreshing. The A/C and all other amenities worked well. Tons of snacks and beverages are included. The staff were kind and welcoming. It really is a very special place and you can tell a lot of care was put into its construction!
The bad: Food for all your meals is stocked in the fridge in advance, with some variety of mains and sides. For dinner, we decided to grill the provided oryx steaks and vegetables, but found the vegetables were growing mold. This made us concerned that food that was uneaten by prior guests is perhaps left for the next guests (as freshly cut broccoli refrigerated in a well air-conditioned environment shouldn't be molding so quickly).
Perhaps worse, we communicated about a nut allergy well in advance and this was acknowledged by the property. We thought, as we were the only guests, this would be relatively easy to accommodate. Upon arrival, not only were several bowls of nuts out, but most of the provided snacks contained nuts, and the entire dessert tray was also covered in nuts (and this was stacked along with the other food, introducing risk of cross-contamination). This was a very disappointing discovery, especially at such a remote location where it was impossible to go out ourselves to purchase any supplementary or alternative food (anything in your own car is also pretty inaccessible, as you leave your car in a designated parking place and are driven up to the pod by the host). Given the amount of nuts present alongside all the other food, it was difficult to trust that anything was safe to eat.
With the above food issues, we spent most of the stay (only 1 night) pretty hungry! Be warned if you have any dietary restrictions that the food may not be safe for you and make sure to bring your own snacks/food with you up to the pod.
We raised these two food safety issues upon checkout; the staff were very apologetic and did give us a complimentary bottle of win, promising to remedy the issue going forward. Desert Whisper does offer a unique experience you can't really get anywhere else, but until the system for food improves, I can't say I recommend staying here over other luxury lodgings in the area. Hoping they sort this out for future guests, as it really is an incredible place!

Beautiful views but still areas for improvement

The location of the lodge is beautiful. Fantastic views to all sides.
The food is in the fridge for you (breakfast, lunch and (partly) dinner). In itself that is fine but many items are put together in a bin so it is not very fresh anymore. The taste of salami, for example, can also be tasted in the ham and cheese. Among all these items are leaves of lettuce for decoration that lie limp after a few hours. Separate trays would be preferable. It would also be advisable to inform in advance what you like or don't like so that too much of the food is not wasted by throwing it away. However, dinner was very disappointing for a 5-star stay. Three days of Greek salad in advance. Steak full of tendons and fat. The cook did her best but was also bound by what the management had ordered for dinner. At the very least, we expected good quality for the high price that is paid. Perhaps an idea to make a list of items for breakfast, lunch and dinner that will be provided in advance so that you as a guest can mark your choices.
Sun shines all day on the lodge and pool. There's very little shade so you can't escape getting burned. It is quite easy to make a good shade spot by the pool. Told this to the ranger as well but we had the idea that this was not his priority. He was often engaged in other matters than the ones we had asked for.
