Excellent location, beautiful grounds, relaxing stay

Absolutely lovely place! We stayed in December as part of a group tour. Arrived just after 10pm but reception open and check in straightforward. We were taken to our room which was a short walk away past the small rice field where in the beautiful grounds there nestled a small number of individual two storey rooms. We were on the top floor and there was a room below us - the stairs to the top floor were steep so if mobility an issue opt for ground floor. The room was large with a double bed, fridge wardrobe and a large veranda and private access. There was a shower room at the back of the room with a wet room style shower. We were warned to let the water run for 15 mins to get it hot but it did not take that long! There is a kettle in the room too. Spotlessly clean. The surroundings and location are a real asset here. To the front of the hotel is a road with mini-mart (turn left), bars and restaurants plus touristy shops. Turn right and you are on the main Ubud strip. If you go over the stream and out of the back of the hotel you are on Monkey Forest Road; loads of shops, bars, cafes and of course the Forest. And yet Nicks Pension feels tranquil and quiet! You drift to sleep listening to the frogs in the rice field and may be woken by the geckos in the night! Excellent choice of breakfasts (maybe swerve the bread which is the white packaged variety) and these came quickly, especially is chosen the night before. Ate here on our first evening too; because if was the first night I can't really say whether it marked good value or not but the food was tasty, service good and beer cold! There was some Balinese dancing too! I would totally recommend this hotel.

Negative

This is about the restaurant which faces the street. Initially we were impressed by the music and Balinese dancing but waited for food 1hr and there were only 4 table with people. They confused our order twice. I would not recommend if you are visiting after a long day of activities and hungry children!

Very nice surprise

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel and found it very nice. Outdated but original rooms, beautiful well maintained gardens and beautiful swimming pool. Well located with 2 exits in 2 different streets and next to all warung and shops.. Quiet because not in main street.Lunch simple but good. What more to ask for 30€ per night . We had a pleasant time and will return without hesitation.

Would not recommend this hotel

Unfortunately the best part of this hotel is the gardens, they are so well kept unlike the accommodation. You will see by the pictures that the room is tired and needs a lot of work. The complete toilet is not fixed and moves side to side. One of the walls has water damage. There is various other damage to the walls. There is mould on the bathroom sealant. Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was all cold the hottest item was the coffee.

Lovely, helpful staff that made our stay comfortable and easy. Room was cleaned every day, standard of the room is ok, it's spacious and we had a lot of space for our stuff. The surroundings and the garden is very nice and peaceful. Breakfast and massage was good. We didn't try the pool area, but it looked ok. We enjoyed our stay here!
