Just pure FILTH....

A little weary after a long trip on the road I decided to stay over at the Azalea Motel in Coonabarabran NSW. I phoned ahead and was told a room was available so I booked. I was greeted by a very nice Indian lady at the counter and was given a key to my room.....
Well to say that I was underwhelmed would be an understatement.... Looking around the room I was appalled at how basic the room was..
Upon exploring the bathroom to have a shower that I was soooo looking forward to after being on the road for 10hrs was not to be!!! The scum on the walls and glass of the shower recess was almost gut churning and I decided NOT to shower in fear of coming out dirtier than going in, so a face washer clean had to do.. I was hungry and was about to heat up a microwave dinner that I purchased pre arrival only to be greeted by a dirty microwave...
In all my years of travel and motel stop overs, I would rate this by far the worst I have ever stayed in....
DO NOT STAY IN THIS DUMP!!!

Ticks most of the boxes:
- clean
- warm

Main problem is that the noise of the big trucks roaring down the highway all day all night is enough to wake you up and keep you awake

We appreciated the renovated bathroom with space (big drawers) to store toilet bags etc and a reasonably sized room. We were able to conveniently park directly outside our room which was handy for unpacking and packing. Like all Motels in the town, the Azalea Motel is very close to the highway, and those trucks roll through the town 24 hrs a day! When viewing the pictures on hotels.com, be aware that no food is served any more, and the garden is nowhere near as well kept as shown (April 2026) - although I did enjoy spotting a few different birds enjoying the nectar from a large callistemon in the garden.

Friendly staff, good bathroom
