Discover London
Flying into London, a city in Ontario nestled between slick Toronto on the Canadian side, and urban Detroit on the American side, this charming city is a welcome surprise. Nicknamed the forest city for its lush surrounds and astonishing number of parks, this town makes for a delightful introduction to the Great White North, as it incorporates so much of the Canadian spirit with its friendly locals, colonial heritage and numerous outdoor activities.
Things to do in London, Canada
One of the most fun things to do in London is wander around its streets, and its 200 parks and note how much influence England has had on this city. Start in the downtown area, and stroll beside the River Thames, alongside this lovely waterway is Harris Park and the Peace Garden, which are wonderful to walk through on a sunny day. Nearby, visitors can tour the oldest recorded residence in London, Eldon House, and the fascinating Old Courthouse.
Grab a bite to eat at the Covent Garden Market, where you will find stalls selling the best local organic produce, international cuisine, and delicious baked goods. Once you’ve picked up a few refreshments, put your credit card to the test by ambling down Oxford Street, the popular shopping avenue of the city, just like in the English capital.
Other cultural highlights include the Elgin County Railway Museum, that charts the development of this important technological leap, and the Banting House National Historic Site of Canada, a museum that displays the achievements of Frederick Banting, a doctor that was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work and research with insulin.
