Things to do in Seville

Seville is overrun with treasures, but get an idea of the personality of this city by starting with its ecclesiastical attractions. Seville is home to the largest Gothic Cathedral in the world, took over 100 years to build, and is breathtaking in its scope and design. The other important Christian monument, is the Saint Paul Monastery, established in the 15th century and home to an impressive art collection.

Then see traces of the other major religion that shaped this city by making time for the incredible Real Alcazar, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a Moorish fortress. Standing since the 10th century, this gorgeous palace is filled with serene courtyards, opulent bedrooms, and lavish receiving rooms. It is also home to an exhibition of documents charting Spain’s colonisation of the Americas. Couple this with the Biblioteca Colombina, a collection of Christopher Colombus’ personal library.

Then why not wander through the heart of the city, Barrio Santa Cruz, once the old Jewish Quarter, this colourful neighbourhood of winding cobblestone streets is home to some of the city’s most interesting museums, galleries, and pretty gardens.

Lastly, if you get a chance you must try to go to the Museum of Flamenco Dance and learn about Seville’s most famous export, the sultry, passionate Flamenco dance. You can see a performance live in the evening, and witness the Sevillian personality in all its vigour.
