What can you do in Entebbe?

If you’re coming to Entebbe, the wildlife and the landscape are the major attractions, but they do not disappoint. Start your journey in the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, which doesn’t resemble the manicured European versions at all. Here, you will feel as if you are going on a jungle trek, where the lush vegetation is home to exotic birds and cheeky monkeys, who roam freely in the enclosed gardens.

For animal lovers, the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre is where you want to be. You can actually go on a mini safari around this park, and see many of Africa’s most famous land animals, from giraffe, to lion, ostrich, zebra, crocodile and wildebeest. You can see chimpanzees here, but to see these primates at their best, there is an island you can go to called Ngamba, affectionately known as Chimpanzee Island, where you can stay overnight and see these fascinating animals interact.

Lastly, there are the gorgeous and natural lake beaches that surround Lake Victoria, one of the Great Lakes of Africa, where you can look out to a horizon and see the blue sky meet the water. Fish for freshwater fish, sunbathe on the golden sands, or even take a boat trip around the 84 Ssese Islands that make up a stunning archipelago in the northwestern part of the lake.

When should you go?

Entebbe boasts an incredibly temperate climate, with year round temperatures hovering between 20 and 30°C. March through May is generally humid and with a fair amount of rainfall, so if you don’t like rain those months are best avoided. Otherwise you’ll find that even in the coldest month of July, temperatures rarely sink below 20°C.
