Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is an important airport of the U.S. State of Alaska, located some seven kilometres southwest of downtown Anchorage. It is a public airport owned by the State of Alaska DOT and PF, and serves as the main airport of the city of Anchorage. It is also the hub for passenger airlines Alaska Airlines, Pen Air, and cargo carriers Atlas Air, FedEx Express, Polar Air Cargo, and UPS Airlines.

Originally built in 1951 as Anchorage International Airport, the airport covers an area of 4,608 acres at an elevation of 151 feet above mean sea level. It has three runways, measuring 10,600 feet, 12,400 feet, and 10,960 feet respectively, along with a 100 by 100 feet helipad. It has two terminals, namely South and North Terminal, which divides the services into local/regional and short and long haul – international.

Considered as the biggest city in Alaska albeit its population, Anchorage is the main service city of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Anchorage is located in the south-central part of the state on the Cook Inlet, and it is known for its cultural sites, traditional and interesting people, and its natural parks.

Anchorage Museum – Opened in 1968 in a 10,000-square-foot building, the Anchorage Museum is a “world class museum” that is located at the heart of Anchorage, originally only having an exhibition of 60 borrowed Alaska paintings, a collection of 2,500 historic and ethnographic objects, and a staff of two. From there, it grew steadily and became one of the most important hosts of Alaskan cultural collections. Its current size is 170,000 square feet, housing a collection of 25,000 objects and 500,000 historic photographs, and a staff of more than 50. Some 40,000 square feet of the total land area is devoted to its permanent collection with a focus on Alaska history, Art of the North, and Ethnography. Several exhibitions and programs are also held within the year, including presentations such as "Wrapped in Pride: Ghanaian Kente and African American Identity", "Tibet: Mountains and Valleys, Castles and Tents", "Woven Treasure: The Coverlets of Norway", and a few exhibitions of Korean and Japanese ceramics.

Alaska Native Heritage Center – The Alaska Native Heritage Center is an educational and cultural institution open to all Alaskans and its visitors, located in Anchorage. It opened in 1999 as a place where the culture of the 11 Alaskan major cultural groups can be seen and understood. Activities, exhibitions, and demonstrations are held regularly here.

Kincaid Park – A municipal park located in Anchorage, the Kincaid Park is a great place to go hiking, biking, and skiing along groomed trails in a rolling forested area. It is regularly visited by locals who simply want to enjoy some fresh air, go on picnic with the family, or even admire the sunrise and the sunset.

How to get around within Anchorage

Anchorage is built on a grid system that is originally laid out by the railroad. This makes finding a certain location from the map fairly easy, thus making travel around the area easy as well. Some of the more popular modes of transport here include car rentals available through the airport, taxis, bike rentals (Anchorage has an extremely well-developed bike trail system!), and buses. If driving, make sure to be careful as many of the roads are heavily damaged by severe winter conditions and the use of studded tires for some vehicles.
