Why visit Alicante?

Positioned right on the Costa Blanca, Alicante enjoys a long and golden coastline, a typically warm and dry Mediterranean climate, and a kind of lust for life that good food, good weather, and good wine can bring. Indulge your inner culture vulture by making time for the city’s castle, old town, and museums, and spend the afternoon lazing on the beach under the welcoming Spanish sun. At night, let your hair down by dining in the city’s excellent restaurants, snacking and drinking in one of its hopping tapas bars, and dancing the small hours away in one of its throbbing nightclubs.

Things to do in Alicante

Explore Alicante by first heading to the town’s highest point and tour the lovely Castle of Santa Barbara that grows out of the rocky hillside. A fortress built in the 9th century, this is an excellent example of Moorish architecture, and you can tour the rooms, halls, and walls of the castle, and enjoy the panoramic views from this point.

Walk through old quarter of town, called Santa Cruz, below the castle, where you can duck into tapas restaurants, and enjoy a Rioja in one of the many bars that populate the area. You can also find the delightful Baroque Town Hall, the small squares and fountains, and the great medieval market that runs in the summer.

Then embark on a cultural tour, first by visiting the Archeological Museum, which charts thousands of years of local history, then by stepping into the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Then let your hair down, and head to the Playa del Postiguet, a surprisingly beautiful city beach that stretches beneath the sun in a golden swath, and swim in deep blue waters that lap gently at the shore. In the evening, amble to the Marina, where most of the chic shops reside, and swanky restaurants hold sway.
