Sleep next to the Ibaizabal
Errota Ostatua is a very comfortable place. The rooms are large and there are good views. It is close to the Ibaizabal, and shares a building with the Ikastola of the same name. It offers a free gym that you do not take advantage of. Very clean. Very comfortable bed. As if to repeat.

Secluded place, easy to find. What is not so easy is to find the reception as it is a bar and there are no directions, but still the girl who was there was very kind to us. The room had window but there were bars and no air, the bathroom was decent so the room a little dirty, some bug than another, but for the price we paid it was to be expected.

Gym/bar/hotel
This is a bar, restaurant, gym and hotel so it is confusing at first. Don't bother buzzing the hotel there is an abandoned desk. Just go to the bar.
Because they have so much going on there can be long waits to check in/out or buy breakfast. Some employees admitted they didn't know how to operate the hotel related things and just gave up checking us in. They just gave us keys and went back to bar tending.
It was clean and quiet and buying breakfast downstairs was nice. So no major complaints. Other reviews said they were friendly but we didn't see it.

Peaceful hotel with gym
The hotel is 1,3 km from the train station.
Our twin room was clean and quiet. The furniture was basic with a closet, two desks and chairs. We had own bathroom and nice view to the street.
The room price included a simple breakfast.
We were allowed to use the gym for free. There was many gym devices with treadmills and exercise bicycles.

Excellent New Pensione
A bit on the southern fringes of town - but worth the effort.
Hotel Errota Ostatua is a brand new, comfortable pensione that makes one feel part of a community even though one may not participate in the activities. Local senior citizens gather each afternoon for drinks and card playing, bikers and hikers pull up and chat or spend the night, students gather to do their homework, the lobby bar/restaurant always seems to be open to some activity. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Our room (6) was visually huge, the floor space cut off only by dormer windows. It was efficiently furnished with plenty of closet/drawer space. I have never seen such good lighting -- even in hotels costing several hundreds of dollars. The entire place was spotless. The shower had tons of hot water and great pressure -- like being in a spa. Even though Errota Ostatua is located on the southern fringes of the city adjacent to a pleasant park and the charming Iglesia de San Pedro de Tabira (and, therefore, tons of parking), the final stop on the splendid audio walking tour (pick up at Tourist Info) where you can also see the Kurutziaga Cross, the equal of any Gaelic High Cross. The hotel was only a 7-minute walk to Pl. Ata Ana, 15 minutes to the Ezkurdi train station, and 20 minutes to the regional bus stops at Plaza Madalena.
Durango itself was a great surprise, and we ended up spending three nights in the city. The town could easily serve as a base for touring the region, including Guernica, the town with the greater reputation. We visited Elorria, another surprising town of 28 restored "palaces," many churches, and a great walk up through the village of Zenita to the Necropolis de Argineta. Durango would be a destination spot if only for the fantastic restaurant, Kobika Jatetxea, San Ignacio 8, where brothers Inigo & Koldo Kortabitarte serve up an incredible 7-course tasting menu complete with accompanying wines for 49€ per person. This stunning, imaginative meal would have cost 300€ in San Sebastian. It was a little difficult to find tucked into an apartment complex on the north fringes of town, but it is worth the effort. Durango's Goienkalea (Calle Goien) is famous for its special Thursday night Pinxos wanderings. We were lucky enough to arrive on Thursday and enjoyed four different bar cafes, sampling the night's special offers -- both of us: 8 glasses of wine; 8 pixos, 1 sandwich = 13€. And, if this is not enough - Durango was actually the first city bombed during the Civil War, and the Tourist Information has a great self-guided audio guide that you can use to visit the 14 historic and 6 Civil War sites in town. Poor Durango didn't have it's Picasso to document the second bombing at Guernica -- another spot that should be visited in the region. Do Guernica as a day trip from Durango or Bilbao.
