Amazing place for nature lovers !
We stayed at Chaty Tatra for 5 days in the winter and we loved every single day we spent there! I have to say that this is probably one of the accommodations with the best setting I had been in my life (and I travel a lot)...of course you need to be a nature lover and seeking for a quiet & isolated place to feel in harmony with nature. Instead, if you like comforts and entertainments this is not the place for you...but for us it was just perfect! The wooden house is literally in the middle of the forest, every day we were waking up with the view of wild deers through our room windows. We brought with us snow shoes, and every day it was so magical to walk in the surrounding forest and enjoying the silence.
The property has a common kitchen, equipped with everything you need. As there are no restaurant nearby (you need to walk to Strba 20 mins), we usually had lunch outside and in the evening we were cooking at the property (for us this worked absolutely fine!).
The cog rail is only 15 mins away by walking on a beautiful path in the forest. The train was always on time and it reached Strbske Pleso (Ski resort) in 10 mins. One day we went to Tatranska Lomnica, we had to change 2 times but the connection are super, just 5-10 mins waiting so the total journey would be less than an hour.
Sonia, the owner, was away during our stay but she quickly responded to all our inquiry before the arrival and arranged for a taxi to pick us up at Strba station.
Laurie welcomed us and helped us with all the information we needed during our stay, providing time tables and maps about trekking in the area.
Overall we had a fantastic stay in Chaty Tatra and we enjoyed exploring the Tatras Mountains from there. We will definitely go back one day as it is truly a trekking paradise!
NB: Be aware that in case of fresh fallen high snow, taxi may not be able to reach the property so you need to take into account that you may have to walk to Strba train station (20-25 mins walk).

Much needed quiet week
Our family stayed there for one week at a time when we needed quiet and time together. This place was perfect. During the day we went skiing and hiking with the kids, in the evening we enjoyed the fireplace.
The rooms were nice and clean, Wireless LAN worked without problems. The breakfasts were wonderful!

Perfect house
Perfect house for active company , with large room for dinner and good kitchen.Rooms are tidy and clean. Easy rich all activities at high Tatras by car or by domestic train. Also half hour to Low Tartas by car.

Very good price for the conditions and in this respect staged assessment.
This is my second visit to the Pension Tatra and probably not the last :) Where you close it is acceptable to Strbske Pleso and other nearby ski resorts. A place for those who appreciate peace and isolation from the bustle of tourists. The center of the forest, but because of the safe located in the vicinity of other houses, and frequent police patrols .... even at night. I would recommend!

Delightful place and staff, poor location
This pension is quite cute, and the staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Rooms are tidy and clean.
However, this pension is located in the woods with very poor signage and no maps. The walk to the lift is convoluted (It weaves through "unofficial" paths in the woods), making it very easy to get lost in a remote location. The walk from the train station to the pension is along an unmarked gravel path. This area is not recommended for English-speaking travelers, as very few people in Strba speak the language, and many locals have not heard of this pension. It is not accessible by car.
Public transportation to other areas is cheap and easy to use, but leaves once hourly.

Dear Ashley, I am sorry you did not manage to find the house although I showed you the way, it is only 10 minutes away! We had no such a problem till now. About English speaking people in Strba problably you are right. However, if you/or whoever book in advance, I (or my colleague, both speaking English, German, Italian, Spanish - and she moreover Hungarian, Catalan, French and Portugese) will be there and help you with your daily programme.
