A Home Away from Home in Cusco
I'd like to give a special thank you to James Aguilar, the Manager, who organised my trip to Machu Picchu and shared countless helpful recommendations and local advice throughout my stay. His knowledge and willingness to help made a huge difference to my experience.
I would highly recommend Samay Wasi Hostel to anyone visiting Cusco, and I strongly encourage travellers to speak with James when planning their activities. Thank you again, James, for making my stay so memorable!

Overrated Underinvested
Cusco is the tourist town, but budget lodging should not justify the discomfort of the stay.
The first thing we realized by opening the door, strange odour! We investigated what’s the source. No P-Trap in the drain pipe! = It’s coming from the sewage. In fact we were wondering why some people at private rooms keeping windows open in the cold weather.
The room was originally cold and humid, because of the stone wall, feeling like in a cave. Windows; basically only thin single glass panels. Then either no heating or heating for a few hours unless you spoke with the reception in the middle of the night. They tried to compensate with 3 layer of heavy blankets provided. One guest we spoke to, used his own sleeping bag.
We could accept a rather small room, but limited storage space, a lack of shelf and hanging hooks in the room were hard to manage. Also had to charge cellphones by unplugging the bedside lamp. Upstairs breakfast was served with freshly squeezed orange juice, but their kitchen downstairs extremely small as a youth hostel setting for guests.
Again as many reviews mentioned, the staff were friendly and helpful providing us with the tips on transportations, and also prepared us a bag of snacks for our early morning departure.
We hope the owner read this feedback and improve the condition of the hostel.
