Highly recommended

A great place to stay for those looking to experience marrakech and have a cosy convenient place to retreat to. Abla cooked some amazing breakfasts and dinner and Suelyman was so helpful advising what to do and booking day trips. Everyone was so friendly and made the trip so memorable.

Excellent

Beautiful and peaceful riad to stay in to escape the madness that is Marrakech. The place is clean with plenty of hot water and Wi-Fi throughout. The hosts, Claudie and Franck are fantastic. Firstly they organised a transfer for us from the airport to the main street outside the riad. Then we were greated by an employee who took us straight to the riad itself. Do not be alarmed by the little dark side street you have to go down to reach the riad. It's very well lit at night and we felt very safe. Upon entering the riad we were offered mint tea which is delicious and Claudie spent a good 30 mins going over all the good places to visit and good eateries for lunch/dinner. She also organised a visit to a local hammam for us too. Our room was perfect for what we needed (a quiet place to lay our heads) and the roof top terrace provided a place for us to relax when the streets where too much. We loved breakfast every morning. It varied slightly everyday and consisted of breads, yoghurt, fresh fruits and homemade jams. I would absolutely recommend this riad to anyone wanting a place to stay while in Marrakech.

A decent Riad but a basic breakfast

I stayed here just before new year and the riad itself is a nice little place quite close to the entrance of the Medina. I was more than happy with the accomodation, other than the shower screen type door to the bathroom - not ideal if you're in a couple. I was made very welcome by the hosts on arrival and the service in that regard was good. I spent some time on the rooftop and it's lovely to relax.
Negatives: I have to say the breakfast wasn't consistent and average. It was just a bit basic for me and not what I was looking for on holiday, it certainly didn't feel authentic to Morocco.
I was also pushed hard on an excursion to the Atlas mountains at the hotel and did a 1 day trip and it was a total waste of time. I would not recommend this to anyone. I was promised I'd be back by 5pm at the latest as I wanted to go for a massage/Hammam. I arrived in the Medina square in the morning and it was so disorganised. There were so many random buses going back and forth and the gentleman in charge was so unprofessional and didn't tell anyone what was going on - and he almost put me on the wrong bus - I had to double check with him. The journey should have taken 45 minutes I was told but it was 3 hours because they kept stopping off to take us to shops to try and sell us touristy rubbish. We were taken to a shop to see the views (basically someones house/shop with a roof) then brought back via the shop to buy stuff - which I didn't. See details for more comments

The Perfect Place to Stay

We did a lot of research before deciding on making reservations at the Riad Alena. What sold me on this Riad was the extremely fast reply’s to my inquiry and it’s location near the Bab Laksour Gate at the old area of Marrakech. Claudie and Franck (owners) were the perfect hosts during our stay. They arranged a car and driver to pick us up at the Marrakech airport to transport us to the Laksour Gate where Franck escorted us to the Riad. He and Claudie are French with some knowledge of English which is better than my French. He showed us to our room which is the Safran Room, largest in the Riad and on the second floor. It is nice sized with a fairly good size bathroom with a large walk-in shower. The hot water takes a bit to get to the 2nd floor, but when it does, it’s hot! We have 2 single beds which are pretty comfy. All the bedrooms overlook the central courtyard. There is a sundeck at the very top of the Riad where one can relax or take your Moroccan style breakfast or just lounge and relax. Breakfast is provided every morning which consists of bread, jams, sweet yoghurt, fresh fruit, coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. We could not for any better as they were extremely helpful in answering questions about the best places to eat and shop. If we make another trip to Marrakech, the Riad Alena will be our “Go To” place to stay.

Riad ensures you have a wonderful experience

Arrived at Riad after catching a taxi from train station to Bab Lakssour. Riad Alena is 2 minutes from Gate and very easy to find as Franck had already messaged me with excellent instructions.
Claudie and Franck were very welcoming, providing lots of information and making me feel very comfortable. The Riad itself is beautiful and my room had a very comfortable bed, clean bathroom and lots of hot water. Air conditioner worked well and Wi-fi was available throughout the riad. The roof was particularly beautiful with umbrellas, tables and chairs and this is where I had breakfast every day. Rooms are cleaned daily and linen and towels are all good quality.
Franck and Claudie gave me some great restaurant recommendations, walked me around to a local agent to book a day trip to the mountains, waited with me at Bab Lakssour to ensure I got picked up by the bus for the day tour and got up very very early to put me in the car to the Airport. Whatever I needed was no trouble for Franck and Claudie.
The Riad location is fantastic, close to a gate, 5 minutes walk to Jemaa el Fna square and as a lone female, I always felt very safe walking around the area. On first arriving and going down the little laneway to get to the riad I was initially a bit concerned, but don’t be, this is a very safe and well-lit area.
Breakfast every day on the roof terrace was a real highlight. The breakfast is huge and it varied slightly every day which kept it interesting and made it special. It included a huge pot of delicious coffee, very yummy Moroccan yoghurt, fresh fruit (usually huge strawberries), fresh breads and very tasty home made jam plus a jug of fresh orange juice. There was also freshly made pancakes, croissants and eggs one day. This was the best breakfast I had in Morocco, it wasn’t just the quantity but the quality of the contents was premium.
I stayed for 5 nights. I would highly recommend this riad and hope one day to be able to come back.
