EXCELLENCE at Exe.

Great rural location with a distinctive old world charm.
Clearly recently renovated up to a high standard, as you could smell the paint.
All the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was good and well presented.
Really appreciated the log fire in the lounge after dinners.

Terrible stay

Stayed here as part of a solo tour with Mercury travel. After a long day on the coach travelling from Fes, we were all disappointed with this hotel. The hotel is in need of serious refurbishment! Rooms are old and tired, and when I pulled back the top blanket on the bed it was stained and the whole room felt unclean. The public areas of the hotel are also in need of refurbishment with the bar smelling of stale smoke, which permeates into your clothes and hair. One room next to the reception area is being re-painted and the smell from the paint spread up to my room. there was no choice at all for the main evening meal - we were served a set menu with no alternatives. Breakfast was abysmal - little choice and what was served was dried and unappetising. Staff were not very friendly and the whole hotel felt like it needed a good clean!

Atmosphere and good food at the hotel restaurant

I can only review the restaurant, where there are stops halfway between Fes and Marrakesh. Very good food, great atmosphere; good drink prices, good wine

Very poor

Very poor experience. Visited as part of group tour. Hotel is in the middle of nowhere. No public space except bar which was full of smokers. Hair and clothes stank after.
Hotel could only be described as Moroccan version of Fawlty Towers. Reception staff rude and bar staff surly. Bar didn’t allow use of credit card or putting the cost on your room tab. Had to go to reception to pay and then produce chatty to bar man.
Room didn’t appear to have been refurbished for decades. Low water pressure made the shower almost unusable. No plugs in bath basin or bidet so no other way of washing. Grouting in bathroom so discoloured you couldn’t judge if it was also dirty. Sheets on bed so thin I thought they would rip and also discoloured so looked dirty.
Arrived and left in the dark so didn’t view the grounds.
No choice at all for the evening meal and even though we appeared to be the only guests we had no choice about when to eat either! To be fair I thought the food we were served was nice enough. Breakfast was buffet style and very basic.

Complete refurbishment required. Set Dinner - No choice except for take it or leave it!!!!

One large room close to reception undergoing refurbishment but priority should be given to Guest rooms. The bathroom photographs clearly show that the standard of maintenance and repair is very poor. Noisy AC and no kettle or tea/coffee facilities. No fridge in room although advertised as such. no guestroom tea or coffee facilities. "Antique" TV had 5 Arabic channels and no French or English channels.
Bar staff not really helpful. When paying for drinks the miserable bar tender required cash as obviously credit cards were a problem. Guests rudely directed to pay at reception.
No dinner menu -Just a set evening meal.
A basic breakfast with only warm hard boiled eggs and other pastries that could be heated in the toaster. A poor selection of cheese and cold meats.
Gardens and pools would have been very warm and welcoming if they were well attended but gardens were overgrown and pool was covered with Bouganvillea leaves which would probably cause pool filter to block.
No way was this hotel deserving of a four star rating - two stars at the most!!!!!
Storage of rubbish under cover along the side of the hotel was am unsightly mess.
