Not elegant — but like coming home,!

We spent 5 days at Coco Loco in February 2019. The hotel is not fancy but our cottage was completely comfortable and charming, equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and TV. Very clean, and staff is friendly and attentive.
Best of all, the Swiss owner, Martin, is the friendliest, most helpful host imaginable. He arranged a fantastic river tour for us, brought us to a delicious ice cream place in a nearby town, and actually accompanied us to Paplanta to learn about Vanilla. Martin was so friendly, helpful and responsive in every way.
The lovely beach is a stone’s throw from the hotel, with charming palapas and comfortable chairs. Food from the very good on-site restaurant can be brought right to your beach location. (Do bring insect repellant when you head to the beach!)
Again—this is not an elegant hotel with cookie cutter amenities. It is a warm, friendly home away from home. Enjoy!

To avoid

We booked a room: superior luxury!!!! I can't even imagine what a standard room would have been like. This one was certainly superior because there were 60 steps to access it. For luxury I am still looking. A 2 m2 bathroom without a shelf for our toiletries, a so-called king size bed 1.5 m wide, an air conditioner that makes a loud noise, no sound insulation from the other rooms, the shower water which is either cold or hot, no wifi. the beach towels provided free of charge but you have to pay to change them for clean ones during a long stay, a very basic breakfast and the best of the best tea is not included for tea you have to pay extra
The island of Boracay is a magnificent and very touristy place, the owner of this hotel has no problem renting his rooms and he takes advantage of it. It's a disgrace to his profession. We stayed 15 days in Boracay and stayed in 3 hotels. The other 2 were less expensive and impeccable, I invite the owner of Cocoloco to do an internship with his competitors to know the definition of a luxury superior room, you understand I do not recommend this establishment

Beautiful location, wonderful host, seconds from an empty beach

Very charming place. You can't beat the location. You can hear the beach from your bedroom. There are three palapas for you to rest under on a beach that is hardly populated and very relaxing. Martin is a wonderful host. He helped us arrange a mangrove tour, arranged to have the satellite fixed for the Super Bowl, and went above and beyond helping us fix a car issue. (note to travellers, beware of the potholes once you get off the main highway and until you reach the hotel! makes Chicago/Pittsburgh potholes look like freshly paved road). The restaraunt is under renovation but there is a nice place that can serve food and drinks next door. Martin did have his son fix us a couple pizzas and they were tasty so hopefully his restaraunt is open soon! Our main issue is that with closeness to beach and rustic setting comes bugs. So definitely be ready to see some pretty big ones. Didn't have issues with mosquitos seemingly. There were two big bed rooms and a nice sized living room. It's more a rustic property then a luxury hotel so go into it prepared. We had a nice and idyllic vacation there!

Martin the owner is great

The hotel is cute and has a great access to a semi private beach which has good waves.
The room had A/C, a comfortable bed and cute decoration. There was an unfortunate smell coming from the bathroom which was remedied by burning a few candles.
Eating breakfast underneath the palapa by the beach was great. You can order food at the restaurant which is in the back and have them bring it by the beach.
At night, Martin invited us to join him and other guests to send a few sky lanterns which was a nice touch. He was very helpful and great to talk to. Martin has a great sense of humor.
Note that the wifi is only available by the palapa on the beach, not in the restaurant. The signal was rather weak.

Lovely setting on quiet beach

Great hospitality, comfortable room good value. Cocoloco is about 1 km from Casitas, a small fishing village at the mouth of a river with a few restaurants and hotels. The area is modest, slightly battered but friendly and we loved it.Not really a resort area here but further up the beach there were fancier accommodations. Martin was an excellent host, speaks several languages and serves a tasty breakfast with good coffee. We'll be back.
