Small, fine, everything it takes!

Nice little place, we liked it very much! Interior admittedly a bit dated but after a renovation the room rate of 90€ including breakfast could hardly be maintained. We traveled with one toddler each, were warmly welcomed everywhere and nowhere stupid looks. Not quite a given, so we were happy about the nice atmosphere. Both at breakfast and dinner on the great terrace. Even the baby porridge was naturally warmed and served nicely.
The employment opportunities are particularly great. Great mini golf course right next to the hotel. Small playground, nothing special but delights every child. Hotel is on one side facing a busy road, you hear something but perfectly ok. On the other hand, a huge nature reserve where you can go hiking or cycling.
For us a great relaxing WE, thank you!

Not recommended

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the hotel. The rooms are quite dated, and the corners were anything but clean. There was also a small dried bloodstain on the bed sheet. The water while showering had a very musty smell (I have no idea how that happens). The insulation of the building must be very poor; it was about 10 degrees outside, and even with the heating on, it did not get properly warm. It is also not very quiet, as the hotel is located directly on the B54. The breakfast was very meager. There was not much scrambled egg available, and it was cold. They did not refill it here either. I only rate the presence of dates positively. I find the price of nearly €100 per night to be anything but justified.
The 2nd. The second star is only given because the bed was comfortable and the staff at the reception were very friendly.

Terrible room, hotel operation very chaotic

We ate and stayed here with a larger group.
Upon arrival we had to clarify various misunderstandings: Apparently it was difficult to book the correct number of single and double rooms, but well, can happen. That some had to show their IDs and fill out a sheet at check-in and others didn't? Okay, gentlemen's decision at the front desk, proceed to the reception.
In the afternoon, the waiters didn't come up with the drinks at all. It turned out to be very difficult to get a few bottles of water. We had booked the fireplace room. This could only be separated from the rest of the restaurant by a cloth, so it was incredibly loud and we had to shout at each other. Dinner was good but very expensive.
But the hotel room was awesome: The bathroom (cleanliness well) was on the ground floor, to the beds with incredibly soft mattresses we came via a ramshackle wooden staircase. A wonderful idea to have to go to the bathroom at night - especially when we found out that the lamp in the hallway was not working. The bedside lamp had no switch, but the plug had to be plugged in to turn it on: Great, if you need the phone flashlight to turn on a lamp... Heating was only available down the hall, so the temperature in the sleeping area was anything but pleasant. There was the clairvoyance of the room (location on the main road) still the slightest problem.
Breakfast was mixed.
I'm still waiting for the bill I was supposed to receive yesterday when I checked out, 1.5 days later, despite the demand. Is it because I didn't have to show my ID?
It's a shame, but our group isn't coming back.

Nothing fancy

Hotel is average, nothing fancy but their restaurant is worth going!! My room (nr 21) was almost directly on the street so couldnt open my windows at night. Terrible. Bed was very good. Breakfast is also ok as is the WIFI.

Nice Hotel!

We stayed at the hotel for several times over the last couple of years and keep coming back because of the proximity to our family in Dortmund when we visit. Overall, one must say that this is a nice hotel and the restaurant produces some delicious food. However: the rooms are very basic and the furniture, if you can even call it that, is worn, dated and really could use an upgrade. In our room, the WiFi (they call it WLAN in Germany) was non-existent, which is a big nuisance if you need to stay in touch with your business overseas. To balance all this: the staff is extremely nice and helpful, the breakfast buffet not over the top but sufficient, the beds really comfy and the location a dream- if you have a room facing the forest and not Route 54....
If you can handle all this: try Dieckmann's, you'll like it.
PS: as per Dec. 2017, there is no elevator to the upper floors, walk-up only.
