Hidden gem in Camon

We are 2 couples from Canada who planned a trip to France to visit Vimy Ridge. We went onto Trip Advisor to find a place to stay. Grange de la Herde came up with good reviews so we decided to book. It was a very good choice. We are staying in a renovated barn with our own rooms and ensuite. Kathleen & Richard are very good hosts and the breakfasts are unbelievable! We would definitely give this b & b top marks!!!

Central to the war fields.

I have a lot to say about this, but not enough room.
We had trouble with our booking, money was supposed to come from my credit card but did not. Owner wanted cash on arrival, and I didn't have it, because I thought it had been paid. Had to PayPal, and I copped the fees, although my contract stated that monies will be taken from credit card, in the form of 30% 2 days before and 70% the day of arrival.
We were cold, and had no heat. When we told owner the heaters did not seem to be working, he said "it's not cold enough yet, they are not switched on". Well, we were cold. We ended up buying a small heater from the shops, and also turning the oven on, and leaving the door open. Even with this, we found another blanket and sat under it on the lounge.
Wifi was free, but you had to sit outside on the owners steps to be able to access it. Not available inside your accomodation.
We had 4 noisy intolerable neighbours, for our last two nights. The last night we were packed and we're going to leave, to alternative accomodation, but we thought they had left, only for them to come home late (we were already in bed). Part of the neighbours accomodation was above ours. So when they walked upstairs it squeaked, and we could also hear them talk through the walls.
The owners, seemed nice, we were disappointed they wouldn't turn the heat on for us, disappointed with our payment for accomodation and with the wifi situation.
We do feel that, they have done the best they could with the accomodation, but by just fixing those three things, it would have made it a 100% perfect hit.
But, they left us alone, the premises was clean, tidy and had everything you could need. A full kitchen, dining table, 2 toilets. Bed was comfy, and apart from the neighbours, it was quiet. Their gardens and plants were beautiful.
It was a set of beautiful old buildings with what seemed original features. Parking was available internal, although we found it easier to park on the street.
Baker down the road, large supermarket and petrol a short drive away.

Absolutely brilliant!!!

We travelled over for the Amiens market, and booked 3 night stay at Grange de la Herde. Its about 2-3 miles outside Amiens. Just 10mins drive into the city. The accommo0datiion is in a converted barn, which fronts out onto the main road, which is not busy. The building is superb! The owners, Richard and Katherine, are genuinely lovely, and very helpful. Cant praise them enough on how welcome they made us feel. The place was immaculate, clean and fresh. Bed comfy, shower was brilliant. Breakfast in the morning was continental, with home made yoghurts and jams. The one day we did not have any breakfast, was when we went to the market, (early start). When we got back, Katherine had left it in the fridge, so we had it as a snack. Parking is out front, and we had to only on one occasion park about 100m down the road. We were woefully unprepared for the trip. Phones were not sorted to get on the internet. The sat-nav was not uploaded with French maps. Had to ask locals directions, so took ages. Cant go wrong here, we loved it.

Great spot to base yourself

We spent three nights here recently and thought the accommodation was excellent. Our room was good, spacious and very clean. Breakfast was good and included fresh fruits well as breads, yoghurt, fresh juice, coffee etc. WiFi worked well in the common area and my Samsung worked in our room although our iPad would not. The owners were friendly and helpful. The village is wonderful and only a short drive or easy walk from Amiens. There is a very good restaurant in Camon as well as a bar if you just want a beer. This location was also good to base ourselves for access to the Somme battlefields etc. We enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend property.

Weekend break

This is a ideal relaxed, friendly getaway in an area adjacent to the kind local couple, who own the nearby main house. Their hospitality was amazing, having the use of their bikes to explore Amiens nearby (5 minute cycle) through to their amazing breakfast and their helpfulness in giving maps and information about the local battle fields. Genuine people that deserve genuine visitors as you are welcomed into their home. Richard and his wife speak good English and made our stay memorable. Highly recommended.
