The food was amazing prepared by the in house chef.
All the staff who took us out on the ‘Safari’ drives were so knowledgeable and were amazing at seeing all the wildlife.
Unforgettable experience

Blissfully informative - thank you Bruce!
The house takes 10 guests but there were only two couples for our stay. Given the amount of time you spend together, as it’s a communal format, it’s very good luck if you strike enjoyable, likeminded people as your temporary companions, which luckily we did!
Our advice is to go to Arkaba totally prepared to do EVERYTHING offered to you so that you have the full experience and ample learning opportunities. What they have done, and are doing, there with native conservation is amazing and fascinating. If you prefer sitting near the pool and drinking (well, you can) rather than walks, talks, drives, sunsets, sunrises and lots of fabulous information about native flora and fauna to soak in, then perhaps choose another of Australia’s luxury lodges!!
We can 100% categorically and sincerely say that Bruce Lawson, the Conservation Manager, who we were very lucky to have guiding us for all activities, fairly and squarely made our stay the pure DELIGHT that it was. His enthusiasm is quite unreal. And having since read about his life via a number of articles, we are in awe at his modesty, rarely speaking of himself unless quizzed - and yet deserving of huge applause for human spirit. It’s almost unbelievable what he has achieved!! How lucky Arkaba is to have him, and how lucky we were to benefit from his remarkable knowledge!! Thank you Bruce!
As to the homestead itself, it is warm, comfy and homey. The wine list is satisfactory and the food suits the surrounds - meaning it’s simple but good…. not complex haute cuisine! Sitting outside for meals in winter under the very effective heaters is bliss and really makes the dining experience. At Arkaba you are given EVERY chance to breathe in the real Flinders air but still in comfort, albeit understated. Again, choose another destination if you want LOTS of ‘luxe’ piled on for your $$$s.
We have visited and walked in the Flinders many times - but this time we went away with our heads bursting with information and our minds dreaming of getting back to the region soon, now with a different perspective of conservation!

A great experience in Australia’s Outback.
A great philosophy of running the station as a wildlife conservancy. Very interesting guided drives around the property with very knowledgeable guides.
Great staff at all levels. All details taken care of. Loved it.

An incredible experience!
Firstly, this part of the Flinders Ranges is just so special and one of my favourite places on earth. To walk through this beautiful area was such a privilege and l miss it already. The walk is completely doable with a moderate level of fitness.
We were so lucky to have found ourselves with a group of great people who really added to the experience. However, it was our guide, Monica, who really made the walk one to remember. Her knowledge, passion and enthusiasm were completely infectious!!
Add to that our nights in the bush camps, being looked after so beautifully by Sandy, as we ate delicious food and chatted by the campfire, before heading to our swags for the best sleep ever!
On reaching the Homestead after three days of walking we gratefully checked into our lovely rooms, with very comfy beds, to enjoy yet more wonderful food and wine.
Without exception, every single member of the Arkaba team was friendly, welcoming and really, really good at what they do. Thank you to you all! We loved our time with you and will be back again one day.
