Rhodes is a treasure trove for anyone that loves ancient history, and the best place to start is the Archaeological Museum, which can give you an idea of the people and the civilisations that made their mark on Rhodes.

One of the most popular sites is the Palace of the Grand Masters. Built by the Knights of St. John, this fortress sits atop the highest point in town where this Catholic militia ruled the island from the 14th to the 16th century. From the fort you can easily walk to, and along, the town walls, and served as the primary defense of Rhodes.

Then head to the old Harbour, where the Colossus of Rhodes, an ancient statue of the Greek Titan Helios stood for over 50 years until it was destroyed in 226 BCE by an earthquake. Today you can see medieval windmills along the waterfront, and you can hop aboard tours to other sun-kissed islands nearby.

Then spend your evening in the Square of Dorieos, a lovely part of town with several delightful tavernas you can grab a bite in while the sun goes down.
