Why visit Prague?
Prague is one of Europe’s great beauties; rising on either side of the Vitava, the capital of the Czech Republic has been standing for over a millennia, and this can be seen in conglomeration of Medieval, Baroque, Renaissance, and Gothic architecture. Its history is weighty, and its attractions can rival any of the major capitals in Europe.
If you book a trip to the ‘City of a Thousand Spires’ you will find yourself looking for ways to come back, as Prague is a city that imprints itself on the hearts and minds of anyone who visits it.
Things to do in Prague
There are lots of things to do in Prague, but you should kick off your tour of the city by visiting the historic centre of the city, the Old Town Square, and its Astronomical Clock. The Astronomical Clock is a staple monument in the city, a medieval device built in the 15th century that has moving figures—the 12 Apostles—that come to life on each strike of the hour. Other highlights include the Clementium (and its gorgeous national library) and the old Tyn Church. Many visitors combine a trip to the old square with one to the Jewish Quarter, which housed the important Jewish Museum, and many fascinating sites, like the Spanish Synagogue, and the Old Jewish Cemetery.
After the old town, you must make time for the impressive Prague Castle, which holds within its walls the St. George’s Basilica, St. Vitus Cathedral, and the Royal Palace. The castle complex is vast—the largest of its kind in the world, and is a historian’s dream to tour. There are lots of salacious details about the royals that lived here, and you will gain a great insight over the 1000 years of history this castle has stood witness to.
Then in the evening, as the sun is setting, you should stroll to Charles Bridge. Perhaps one of the most iconic bridges in Europe, this is a beautiful example of medieval architecture, and an important link to the two sides of the city. Bring a camera, with you, and maybe a loved one, as this is one of Prague’s most romantic spots.
