Getting to your destination

It takes 27 minutes to drive to Ljubljana from the airport. It’s best to look for hotels in Ljubljana with car parking, as parking in the city centre is restricted. Time limits can be as low as half an hour in some areas, so always pay attention to signage. The parking meters don’t give out change, so make sure you have plenty of coins.

Slovenia’s most popular tourist destination has two fantastic centrepieces: its Alpine lake and island church. There’s also a historic castle, breathtaking mountain peaks, and miles of hiking trails to discover.

It takes about 25 minutes to drive to Bled from Ljubljana Airport. Parking can be difficult (and expensive) during the summer high season. Lots of hotels in Bled have their own car parking facilities for guests, which takes some of the stress out of finding a place to leave your hire car.

Art history, vibrant culture, and the best coffee in the country combine to make Trieste one of Italy’s most underrated cities.

If you can’t find cheap flights to Trieste, fly to Ljubljana and drive instead. It takes an hour and fifteen minutes to reach the centre of Trieste from the airport. There are various multi-storey car parks to choose from in the city centre. You can expect to pay €10-16 (about £7.33-11.73) for a full day of parking.
