Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a major aviation facility for the state of Florida, and the city of Orlando. A huge tourist hotspot due to its proximity to some of the world’s most famous theme parks, this facility sees 40 million people travel through its doors each year. Established as an airfield in World War 2, this airport became a commercial hub in 1975. As recently as 2015, Orlando’s international airport has been approved to undergo a hefty expansion project that should result in a new South Terminal Complex, due to be operational around 2019.

The amenities at this airport are extensive, with lots of cash machines, foreign exchange services, and free WiFi access across the airport. There are lots of restaurants, from sit-down eateries, fast food brands, bars, and cafes you can relax in, or purchase a bite to eat before boarding your flight, or when you disembark. There is also a large duty-free area, and a large selection of shops selling gifts, apparel, books, electronics, and travel goods.

There is a Ground Transportation Centre where you can organise car hire for the duration of your stay in Orlando. If you choose to fly to Orlando from Australia, you can hop aboard flights with Qantas, Virgin Australia, LATAM Airlines, Delta, Emirates, United, British Airways, Air Canada, and American Airlines. 

Travel Information

·         Getting into the city is pretty straight forward; just get onto the South Access Road to South Semoran Boulevard, and then merge onto the FL-408 W. Then exit toward Rosalind Avenue on the FL-15, and you’ll come into the downtown area.

·         There are buses that run to central Orlando, and out to some of the theme parks. They are usually about 2USD ($2.70) for a one-way fare. If you don’t want to deal with public transport, but aren’t too keen on shelling out for a taxi, try booking your airport transfers online, which can save you money, but come with the ease of private transport.

·         There is a taxi rank just outside the terminal, and taking a taxi to downtown will cost you about 45USD ($60), not including tip.
