Washington Dulles International Airport is a public airport operated and owned by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. It serves the Baltimore - Washington metropolitan area, and is located between Dulles and Chantilly in the US State of Virginia. The airport was named after John Foster Dulles, the 52nd Secretary of State who served under the President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Washington Dulles International Airport, or colloquially Dulles, is the busiest airport in the Washington metropolitan area and the second busiest airport in the larger Baltimore – Washington Metropolitan area, after the main Baltimore – Washington International Airport. It serves some 21 million passengers every year, and is considered as the busiest international airport in the mid-Atlantic outside the New York metropolitan area. On a typical day, it caters to more than 60,000 passengers, and serves some 125 destinations around the world. The Dulles is a known hub for United Airlines and Silver Airways, and a focus city for Frontier Airlines (until October 2014 of this year).

The airport’s terminal complex consists of a main terminal and two midfield terminal buildings called Concourse A/B and Concourse C/D. The entire terminal complex has 123 gates and 16 hardstand locations, from which passengers can board or disembark using the airport's plane mate vehicles. It has four concrete runways, measuring 9,400 feet, 11,500 feet, 10,501 feet, and another 11,500 feet runway, respectively. A fifth runway is planned in the future.

How to get around within Washington, D.C.

Although the city is mainly described as a walking and biking city, there are several types of transportation that travellers may use whenever they find themselves within Washington. One is through the Metro, operating Monday through Thursdays from 5:00 in the morning up to 12:00 midnight, Fridays from 5:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the morning (next day), Saturdays from 7:00 in the morning up to 3:00 in the morning (next day), and Sundays form 7:00 in the morning up to 12:00 midnight. Buses can also be considered especially if going to areas that are not reached by the metro, while circulator buses are best for people who wish to reach main attractions easily. Other options include taxis, pedicabs, and rental vehicles. Note that parking fees are steep here.
