Dubrovnik will strike you as entirely self-assured of its beauty. Sitting against the turquoise waters of the Adriatic, the terracotta roofs of the city’s stone houses, castles and churches stand out against the azure sky, making the city look like an illustration from a children’s fairytale, or a postcard from the 1950s.

Begin with embarking on a tour of the Dubrovnik’s old city walls, established as early as the 10th century, these stunning stone walls really lend the city that storybook quality. On the way you can admire some of the best views in the city, as well as explore the towers and forts that line the walls. End your tour of these walls at Pile Gate, a beautiful 15th century carved stone archway, one of the most lovely entry-ways into the city.

Once you’re finished exploring the walls, head for the Stradun, a pedestrianised thoroughfare in Dubrovnik that acts as one of the city’s main arteries for cafes, restaurants, and shops that you can explore in this atmospheric and beautiful limestone paved street. Make sure you make a detour for the stunning Dubrovnik Cathedral, one of the town’s most iconic landmarks.

For history buffs, the place to add to your itinerary is the Rector’s Palace, where the Cultural Historical Museum is now situated. Learn about Dubrovnik’s past under Roman and Venetian rule by touring this wonderful museum.
