Rafael Núñez International Airport is an airport serving the city of Cartagena, Colombia. The public airport is located in the centre of Crespo, within the urban area of Cartagena de Indias. It is managed by the Sociedad Aeropuertos del Caribe S.A. (SACSA). The airport is known as the largest airport in the northern Caribbean region of Colombia, in terms of passenger movement. Rafael Núñez International Airport resides at an elevation of four feet or one metre above mean sea level, and operates with an asphalt surfaced runway.

What to see & do

Torre del Reloj - The Torre del Reloj, or Clock Tower, is the most famous landmark of Cartagena. This building is the main entrance of the historic old town. The inside of the Clock Tower originally was a weapons room and chapel. In 1874 these were replaced with a United States pendulum clock, which 63 years later was replaced with the Swiss clock that is used even today.

Museo del Oro Zenú - The Museo del Oro Zenú is a smaller version of Bogotá's gold museum, Museum del Oro. The small museum features a collection of the gold and pottery of the Zenú people.

Castillo San Felipe de Barajas - The Castillo San Felipe de Barajas is a fortress on the Hill of San Lázaro in Cartagena. It was built during the colonial era by the Spanish, with construction beginning in 1536. The castle was originally Castillo de San Lázaro, and was expanded significantly in 1657.

Palacio de la Inquisición - The Palace of Inquisition, or Inquisition Palace, was an 18th-century seat of the Holy Office of the Inquisition in Cartagena. Today it is used as a museum, displaying historical artefacts and torture equipment that were once used. Featuring a Spanish Colonial style with elements from the Baroque era, it is considered to be one of the "best examples of late colonial, civil architecture" in Cartagena.

Playa Blanca - Playa Blanca, or White Beach, is the best public beach in Cartagena. The sand is bleached white and the clear azure waters are great for swimming.

How to get around within Cartagena

Many of the attractions in Cartagena are situated near each other in the historic centre. Cartagena is served by local buses that run throughout the city. To know which bus to take, you can just ask the driver or other people waiting for a ride which bus passes by your destination. Taxis are also easy to find, although there are no metered taxis. Due to this, it is essential to negotiate the price in advance to make sure you aren't charged ridiculously high. Some taxis in Cartagena operate as colectivos, running on fixed routes. There is a special gesture, a pointed index finger, used by drivers who operate a taxi as a colectivo, and by commuters looking for one. A unique way to get around Cartagena is by chariot, in the old town. There are usually a few waiting at the Plaza Bolivar or near the Santa Clara hotel. The old town can be navigated on foot.

Another option for getting around, though not recommended, is the moto-taxi. These motorbike taxis are a popular cheap way to get around, but is considered dangerous. These can usually be found at the main exit points of the walled city.
