Though Palma-Majorca (PMI) only services the island of Majorca, it is the third busiest airport in Spain, and one of the best-equipped transit hubs in the country. Passengers will find cash machines, currency exchange and postal services, access to unlimited free WiFi, a pharmacy, as well as a huge number of shops and restaurants to browse in before you exit the airport.

Transport

You can pick up a taxi from just outside the terminal. The fares tend to depend on the time of day, whether it is a holiday, along with changing traffic, but expect to pay between 20-30EUR ($30-45) for a journey into Palma.

The public transport is easy and efficient on Majorca. There is a bus—Route 1—you can take directly into Palma, which will take you through the town and alongside the seaside promenade. These run every 15 minutes, from roughly 6:00am-1:00am and cost 3EUR ($4.50). You can also take routes 104, 106 or 107 to the other popular town of Magaluf from the airport.

If you’d prefer to rent your own car, you can find lots of car rental desks within the terminal building. All the major car companies are represented, like Hertz, Enterprise and Avis among others.

Though this is a domestic flight, you must carry photo identification with you. This can be a social security card, a driver’s license or your passport. Please note: if you are an internationaltravellerflying within Spain, it is recommended that you use your passport as your primary form of identification.

How long should you leave to get to the airport?

As this is a domestic flight departing and arriving in domestic terminals, it is recommended that you check in at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Please be aware that if you are travelling in a group, or are going on to a connecting flight, that you arrive 90-120 minutes before departure time.

Weather: Majorca has a great reputation for great weather almost the entire year, and it is well founded. The summers (June-August) are the most popular time to visit, as the temperature averages between 26-30°C, and even the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn don’t tend to dip below 18°C. Though winters are pleasant at 14°C, they are quiet with a lot of restaurants and bars closing down for the season.

Palma de Majorca is cheaper than Barcelona, but not by much. If you’re going into the town for dinner, expect to pay around 40EUR ($58) for a three course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant.
