Why visit Dubai?

Once a small fishing port, the desert jewel of Dubai is all at once an oasis, a playground, a financial powerhouse, an international hub, a traditional rest haven and a melting pot. Spending time in this city will grant you the opportunity to embrace all of its quirks, as well as enjoy its well-deserved reputation as a wonderful holiday destination.

Things to do in Dubai

First stroll through Old Dubai, where bobbing dhows—traditional merchant boats—replace the gleam of the skyscrapers. Sail down the creek to get a sense of this community before it exploded onto the world stage. It is in this part of town that you can investigate the wonderful souks, especially the ones celebrated for selling gold, and then try true Emirati cuisine, a mixture of rice, seafood and halal meats, perfect and delicious in the desert heat.

Once you’ve taken in the old world, head for the new by stepping into the flashy core of downtown, shop in lavish malls, eat in award-winning restaurants, and browse the contemporary galleries that litter this part of town. Then leave the streets and make your way to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world, and see the spectacular Dubai skyline. If you can, time your trip at sunset, as the cityscape is at its most impressive at night, when all the lights contrast against the velvety black sky.

Lastly, a trip to this city would not be complete without some time spent in Jumeirah, the golden stretch of sand that runs along the city. See families stroll along the beach at sunset, and then dine along the shore in what is considered to be the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Dubai.
