Why visit Krabi?

On the western coast of Thailand, the district of Krabi is known for its shining, sugary coast, its languorous palm trees that frame the sparkling waters of the Andaman Sea, and the striking vision of rising karst mountains that punctuate the region’s skyline. Flying to this part of the world, will give you a chance to experience the kind of paradise that Thailand has become famous for, and you will come home disappointed.

Things to do in Krabi

Travellers from all over the world come to Krabi to explore its shoreline, and usually their first stop is the lively Krabi Town. Here, you will find a whole host of guesthouses, backpacker hostels and hotels, streets lined with restaurants and bars, and a few great attractions. Take the time to stroll along the Riverside Walk; it’s the perfect place to see those karst mountains that make Krabi so distinctive, and shop in the Chao Fah Night Market.

Just near the town, is the atmospheric and remarkable Wat Tham Sua, also known as the Krabi Tiger Cave. This temple is set within a series of caves, which are surrounded by the lush, jungle vegetation of the area, but the real highlight is the gilded Buddha that sits atop its karst throne, and you must climb over a thousand steps to reach it. The hard work will be worth it though when you are greeted with panoramic views of Krabi, the sea and its islands.

Just outside of Krabi Town is where most of the area’s famed natural attractions are, and many use the town as a jumping off point to explore some of Thailand’s idyllic islands and national parks. Head to Koh Hong, a lagoon that boasts powder-white sand and turquoise waters, and is perfect for keen snorkellers and divers looking to explore the underwater landscape Thailand is famous for. For a little nighttime revelry mixed with paradise, you cannot go wrong by spending a few nights on the Phi Phi islands, or to feel like a castaway, try Koh Poda.

For the hikers, and outdoorsmen and women, find your way to Thung Teao Forest Natural Park and discover the extraordinary Emerald Pool, or choose the Khao Phra Bang Khram nature Reserve instead, and ease your muscles after a long hike in the Klong Thom Hot Springs, thermal pools that are hidden within the jungle.
