The Antalya Airport is a public airport operated by ICF Airports. It is located some 13 kilometres north-east of the city centre of Antalya, the primary holiday destination located on the country's Mediterranean end. It has two international terminals and one domestic terminal, and is considered as one of the major airports in the southwest section of Turkey, apart from the airports of Bodrum and Dalaman.

The Antalya Airport serves many destinations in Europe and some parts of West Asia, and a few other domestic destinations. It accommodates at least 20 million passengers in the recent years, peaking at around 25 million (2011) to up to 28 million (2014). By way of comparison, in 2002, the facility served about 10.3 million passengers, steadily growing in to the recent figures, thus almost tripling the number of passengers in just 12 years. Today, it ranks as one of the top 100 busiest airports worldwide, with about 40 percent or more of its passengers international. Apart from its proximity to some of the best holiday destinations in the country, it also offers various services and facilities for the traveller's convenience.

What to see & do

Antalya Museum – the Antalya Archaeological Museum, or simply the Antalya Museum, is one of Turkey's largest museums, located in Konyaalti in Antalya and home to some of 5,000 works of art. It has 13 exhibition halls and an open air gallery, which shows the history of the Mediterranean and Pamphylia regions in Anatolia. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, some 25,000-30,000 pieces of artefacts that cannot be displayed are in storage, making the museum all the more interesting. When in the museum, check out its various halls, including the Natural History Hall, the Pre-History Hall, Proto-History Hall, Classic Period Hall, Statuary hall, Hall of Small Objects, Mosaic Hall, Sarchopagus Hall, and many others.

Konyaalti Plaji – one of the two main beaches of Antalya, Konyaalti Beach is located on the western side of the city, stretching for 7 kilometres from the cliffs to the Beydaglari mountains. It is a touristy white sand beach that is perfect for some quick swims and sunbathing.

Hadrian's Gate – known as the Uckapilar or the 'Three Gates', Hadrian's Gate is an iconic and monumental gate that was erected for the Roman emperor Hadrian during his visit to Antalya in 130 AD. It is considered as Pamphylia's most beautiful gate, and local legend has it that Sultana Belkis, the Queen of Sheba, is said to have passed the said gates and enjoyed a happy day in the palace in Aspendos on her way to visit King Solomon.

Duden Waterfalls – located some 10 kilometres from the beaches South-east of Antalya, the Duden Waterfalls is a drop from the river Duden that leaves from a higher plateau of the Taurus mountains. Although not quite the 'natural' sight that travellers are aiming for, the waterfalls itself is still beautiful, dropping 15 metres deep and measuring 20 metres wide.

How to get around within Antalya

Antalya is served by various types of transport, including buses, taxis, and ever rental cars. From the airport, travellers may rent vehicles through eight car rental companies, or opt to ride the public bus shuttle number 600 running every thirty minutes between the facility and the Antalya bus terminal. Taxis can be accessed in front of the arrival exits of all terminals, and can be hailed within the city centre.
