Ibiza Airport is the public airport serving the Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Formentera in Spain, also called the Pine Islands or Islas Pitiusas. It is the primary commercial airport used by travellers for getting to and from the two islands. Ibiza Airport resides at an elevation of 24 feet (seven metres) above mean sea level, situated southwest of Ibiza Town. Ibiza Airport receives year-round domestic services.

What to see & do

Cova de Can Marçà - The Caves of San Marca, located in Puerto de San Miguel, are the largest natural caves in Ibiza. It is over 100,000 years old, first discovered and used by smugglers to hide their loot. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction for its impressive stalagmites and stalactites, and the eerie illumination. Guided tours in various languages can be arranged.

Space Nightclub - One of the most popular nightclubs in Ibiza is the Space Nightclub. It has received many awards, including the Best Global Club. The opening and closing party weekends of the nightclub is widely considered to be the unofficial start and end of the clubbing season on the island.

Formentera Beaches - The beaches in Formentera are considered to be 'almost Caribbean' beaches. They are much less crowded compared to Ibiza and are the main tourist attractions on the island, especially since the sand and waters are clean. Sunbathing nude is allowed and common. Some of the good spots in Formentera include Platja Llevant, Cala Saona, Platja Migjorn, Platja Es Arenals, Platja des Canyers, and Espalmador.

Ibiza Cathedral - Cathedral of Our Lady of the Snows, located in Ibiza Town, is the principal church and cathedral of Ibiza. The current structure has undergone many renovations and additions over the years. Today, it houses several works of art, including a Gothic monstrance of golden silver created in 1399 by Francesc Marti, and two Gothic panels of Saint Tecla and Saint Anthony, painted in the 14th century by Francesc Cornes.

How to get around within Ibiza

The public transportation in Ibiza comprises of local buses, car rentals, and taxis. Renting vehicles is easy enough; all you need to do is show a valid driving licence. It may only be difficult to acquire a car rental during July and August, when the demand is high. During this time, it would be best to book early. Having a rental car to drive is great for independent travel, but be prepared to take extra care when driving; the locals can be terrible drivers, and many tourists tend to drive under the influence of alcohol. Taxis are the easiest way to travel between cities. If taking a taxi from the airport, make sure to queue for licenced taxis instead of the fixed-price taxis for lower rates.

As for travelling to Formentera, travellers need to catch a ferry from Ibiza to get there. From the port, there are regular buses (all of which are tour buses).

Ibiza Airport receives regular domestic flights from Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca, Barcelona, and Santiago de Compostela. There are also regular international flights from Paris, Vienna, London, and Valencia. In addition, Ibiza Airport operates summer seasonal routes to and from other cities across Europe. The airport is served by several airlines, including Air Berlin, British Airways, easyJet, Iberia, Meridiana, Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines, Tui, and Vueling.
